Grouse Near Calgary
Hi All,
New to this forum and lovin it! Really cuts into my work time though spending all day reading posts from the years and years of experience and expertise to be found here.
I'm not looking for anyone to give up their sweet spot or anything, just hoping for some tips on where to find some ruffies around the Calgary area. Been a few years, but was last in the Waiporous/Burnt Timber and further north areas. Also McLean creek etc but it seems those "go to" spots are so overrun i'm hoping for some decent crown areas within 1-2 hours of Calgary.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've gotten ruffies in 406 west of Turner Valley at the K country entrance.

I used to get a few West of Waiporous Creek. Go 1km past the Waiporous campground. There is a gravel pit on the right, turn left. Cross the Waiporous and follow that trail. Takes you quite a way back. There are grouse along the way. There is a small creek (Meadow Creek) that has some nice brookies and cutthroats. Smallest Panther Martin spinner. Yellow body, red dots, silver spinner. Never had any luck with flies.
There's grizzlies, elk, mules. wt and wild horses back there. Real pretty country. A good day hunt.
Regards,
Gary

there are definitiy birds around sibbald but is it all open to hunting? i was at homestead the other day and saw some birds in the area. checked my regs/map, didn't see any reason I couldn't hunt there but wasn't sure if it was all private land or what? haven't had a chance to pick up a township land ownership map for there.

Went to 316 instead. 6 hours on the ground and no sign of deer. But I did get 2 Spruce Grouse sorry no pics.
I used the 12 23/4 with low recoil 8 Shot. Did the Trick readily enough.
THanks.
