Slugs in a Mossberg 535

Am I ok to use rifled slugs in a standard 28" barrel with an improved cylinder accu-choke or do I need a slug specific barrel?

Not sure about the choke but smooth bore barrels need rifled slugs and rifled barrels or slug barrels will take sabots. Way better accuracy with a sabots obviously also increases distance.

Your typical rifled slug should be fine out of an IC choked barrel. I have slugs (Remington sluggers, I think) that state they're safe out of any choke, but cylinder bore will produce the best results. The purpose of the "rifling" on a rifled slug is not to impart spin, it's actually to allow the slug to be swaged down through a smaller choke (hence why Remington states they can be used with any choke). People will probably dispute that, however. As always.

yup, you may be surprised with the accuracy of rifled foster slugs out of it.

Mossberg's website says the 535 is ok for slugs. But not the 835 or 935. Foster type Rifled slugs are typically soft lead and are designed to swage down to the choke. You could fire them through a full choke if that's all you had. Accuracy might suffer and it probably would wear out the choke more quickly
