The accubond is a premium bonded bullet tht will hold togther and perform well. I wouldn't hesistate to use it on elk.

Default 140gr Accubonds

Not exactly the same, but.....

I shot a Whitetail with a 270 using 140gr accubonds. After I decided that they are not suitable for deer, but hopefully moose or elk.

The problem I had was no expansion. They went right through at about 110m. On a larger animal it would likely do better.

Hope this helps.

It will be fine for elk. I shot a bull a couple of years ago with my 270 WSM using 130 gr Barnes TSX bullets, the bull was killed with the single shot and the bullet exited. You should be able to expect similar performance with the 140 gr AccuBond.

I watched a big mature Bull Elk literally drop in his tracks to a 130 gr .277 TSX launched from a 270 Winchester a few weeks back. A partner shot him at a lasered 547 yds and the bullet went low through the meaty part of both shoulders and exited (no bone was struck) destroying the lungs and what looked to be the arteries above the heart. The bullet was launched at just over 3000 fps (chronographed) and was carrying a measly 1250 ft pounds of energy when it struck hair. He hit the ground with aplomb.

I don't like the Accubond and would hunt Elk with something else, but many like it for that application.

Good bullet...good cartridge.....add good shot to the equation and you'll have a dead elk.

How do you know there was no expansion?

I have shot a few elk with a 270 WSM with a 140 grain Accubond. Personally, I haven't been to impressed with the performance of the accubond's. One elk I shot at 100 yards through the shoulders and we had to put another 3 shots in him to get him to stop. I recovered the bullet in the hide of the opposite shoulder and the bullet did not expand well. I am going to try 150 grain Bergers and see what they perform like. The 270 WSM is a great caliber, but I'm not sold on the accubonds.

I shot a bull elk in the shoulder at a 150yrds with 160 gr accubonds in my .280 rem .The bulllet blew up on the shoulder and did not penetrate. 3 more were required to anchor the bull. That was the last time I used accubonds for anything. I have had great luck with partitions and recenently have started using the barnes tsx . The txs has been aminzingly accurate in both my .280 and .280 AI. I like bullets that penetrate and the tsx has a reputation like no other for penetration.

In a .270wsm I would load some 130 gr tsx and go elk hunting. Pretty sure you can get them in Federal factory ammo as well.
