Default Reloading Powder Coated Bullets

Hello all,

So I'm reloading some 45 auto 230gn powder coated bullets and I keep having this issue. Occasionally the bullets seem to be hard to seat and when I look at it after the case has shaved a tiny sliver of coating and lead off the side of the bullet. I tried tapering the case mouths more which helped but still happens now and then. I am using the Lee carbide die set that seats and "crimps" at the same time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would open the case mouth more, then only crimp just enough to close the mouth back around the bullet. Don't over crimp them. If you have a taper crimp die use it to crimp your loads. If you don't have a taper crimp die I would suggest you look into getting one as they work way better for 45 auto and similar ammo as they head space on the case mouth.

Are you powder coating them yourself? If so more often than not the pc makes the bullets a little oversized and they require sizing.

X2 PC adds as much as .003 depending on the method, and how many coats you put on. If you already had an oversized bullet, you need to size it back to spec or get a smaller mould.

The ones shown are store purchased. Measured a half dozen. .452 I will be casting and powder coating my own and will size them. I tried backing off my taper crimp a bit and it seemed to help a lot.
