Default .204 and wind

I have a Tikka T3 in .204 and is an amazing little coyote gun. Factory .32gn Hornady vmax stops em dead. I constantly hear ppl talking about or looking for good coyote/ varmint rifle and everytime the .204 comes up, it seems wind is a big factor. I just haven't seen it to be a big deal.

#1) Unless your throwing them 400+ yrds the .204 is super fast and I haven't notice wind affecting it much.

#2) Do you just wait for coyotes to come to you or do you call them? The odd one gets hung up wayyy out but aren't most a 100 yrds give er take 50 yards? With a decent scope and a bi-pod a 200 yrd shot is pretty safe.

Once I was playing at 600yrds and that was starting to get tricky in the strong wind but I would thing that's gonna move even a .243 pretty good.

Thoughts....

Default 20Cal. in the wind

I've been shooting 20Calibres for 25 years and reload 20PPC 20BR 20TAC and 204R...also shoot 17Rem's with 25gr. bullets.
Edmtn. area doesn't have alot of windy conditions therefore it's seldom a concern for me.
Any bullet will be affected by wind...the less B.C. ballistic coeffecient the more drift....the further away your target the more drift....

The 32 gr v-max is not a good choice for shooting in the wind. I use the 39gr Blitzkings in my 20 Tactical. If you drive the 39gr bullet at around 3900fps, it drifts less in the wind than a 55gr bullet out of a 22-250 or 220 swift.

Its all about the math, ballistics dont lie.

Here is a good link on .20 cal

Here is some info from the link if your not interested in clicking

I’m often asked how a 20-Caliber gun compares with the ever-popular .223 Rem. Well, I tell people the Twenty is flatter-shooting, easier on barrels, and it is a better choice for small varmints, whether you want to “mist ‘em” or save the pelt.
The Velocity Edge–A .204 Ruger drives a 40-grainer 600 fps faster than a .223 Rem can push the typical 22-Caliber 50gr bullet. This higher velocity produces a flatter trajectory. Additionally, grain for grain, 20-Caliber bullets have higher ballistic coefficients than .224 bullets. Combine this with the extra velocity of the 20-Caliber, and you get superior performance in the wind. Run the numbers and you’ll see–a 40-grainer shot from a .204 Ruger has less drop AND less wind drift than a 40gr or 50gr bullet fired from a .223 Rem. You’ll find the data in the chart below.
