Default Elbow River Tomorrow (June 10th)

Going to hit up the Elbow River west of Calgary tomorrow, weather permitting.

I don't know as much as I should regarding fly selection, so I was going to go with orange stimulators and see how it goes.

Any reason to deviate from this? I'll keep an eye on what is flying around and check under a few rocks but stimulators have gotten me browns there before so I figure what the heck.

Insight is appreciated.

Fished it last weekend really slow. Tried lots caught little. Only thing I had any luck with was a #10 hopper/stonefly. And some standard nymphs. My son did better with small spinners and 5 whites I only landed a small brown and 4 whites. The elbow can be like that more often than not

Silver beadhead pheasent tails for the elbow 14-18 size or a size 12 stonefly. I have personally caught quite a few 20"+ browns on both patterns.

generally the bigger fish are farther downstream. there are some access places off highway 8, also right in Bragg Creek and Redwood meadows, and upstream of there.

the elbow has nice water but not near as many fish per km as most other southern alberta rivers
