Sako model 85
Any opinions on the Sako model 85? More particular in a 300 or 7mm mag. I'm thinking of buying a rifle and have been interested in this model. Any thoughts?

They are a high quality firearm. The trigger is very good, and accuracy has been under 3/4 moa for my two 85s.

I have a Sako 85 hunter in 308. A fine rifle that is reliable and finely finished.

620mm, about 25" for the hunter and finlight, might be other choices, as sako has sum groups aviable with couple choices, in barrel length, for fitting with moderators or brakes, I know the short and med length do, not sure on the mag length action.
They are good rifles, on a true to size action, that hold their value well, are easy to sell, strong, accurate, sensible weights, and for most people fit well.

Sako 85 Varmint
I bought my first Sako this fall. Its a .204 varmint with laminate stock. It has the set trigger (8 oz)
It is without a doubt my favorite rifle i have ever owned. It is also the most accurate rifle i have ever owned. I cant tell you how happy i am with this firearm.

I have a 30-06 Classic and a 300Win Mag Gray Wolf. They both shoot well but not any better than my Tikkas. I love them all but when comes time to go hunting I tend to grab a Tikka because the are quite a bit lighter to carry

I've got the 85 in 7mmRM with laminate stock (grey-wolf). It is very accurate, but a fair amount heavier than they advertise for the laminate models.

I have two Sako 85's. A synthetic stainless 7 rem mag and a Finn in 270 win. Both handle and shoot great. The stainless synthetic is heavier than the Finn so it handles the 7 rem mag very well.

What do you guys think about the recoil from a .300 wm or a 7 rem mag. I have been meaning to get one 85 hunter in magnum caliber but I shoot alot more at paper than at game. I shot a buddies 85 systhetic 300 win and it kicked like a mule.

Then why would you expect it to be any different. If you want a big game rifle that will be comfortable at the range, I'd suggest 308 family of cartridges.

The laminates are fairly heavy and with a Decellerator, they aren't at all unpleasant to shoot in 7mmremmag or 300wm. On the other hand, I find the Finnlight very uncomfortable in the magnum chamberings.

They are good rifles, but some have ejection issues when using low mounted scopes. Seems to affect long actions more than short actions.
