Default Tikka T3x 308 and long bullets

Hello all.

Considering one of these rifles. I'm curious to know how well it can manage longer bullets like the 168 gr LRX or TTSX.

Interested in knowing about the mag length and jump to the lands for longer cartridge loads.

Thanks in advance.

Your COAL will be most likely restricted from the guns magazine. I grinded mine a bit and won 1-2mil in coal.

Just buy a 30-06 mag and file your bolt stop. I’m loading 168’s at 0.020 off the lands and just over 3 inch COAL

Excellent.

By chance do you know how much shorter the cartridge would need to be in the standard 308 mag?

I'm also concerned about losing a ton of case capacity. Will likely try things out in the standard mag first.

308 mag is 2.81O/L
30-06 mag is 3.335 O/L

My hand loads are
150gr Barnes tsx - 0.050 off the lands 2.885 COAL

168SMK - 0.020 off the lands 2.995 COAL

My 168's shot a .316 MOA group in the factory gun.

Tikka has the M+ magazines now. They will fit almost a full 3” OAL.
