This could be a short term solution.

It's seeking construction and environmental remediation work to support the break up and removal of rock from the site of the slide during the first available low-water window

I have to ask.. Why are we screwing with nature? Did we cause this slide in any way? Or was it natural?

Natural slide as far as anyone can determine.
Blocking a lot of salmon runs which may lead to them being wiped out.
If we can help, we damn well should!

This natural barrier to migration is a major issue in the news yet the numerous dams all across the continent fall on silent ears.

Might be worth calling up the US military and asking them to drop a few MOAB's on the blockage. Probably cheaper than many other solutions. Sell tickets for the show to offset some of the costs

The Fraser river banks have been falling in the river for thousands of years. The salmon survived fine. If they want to help the salmon then they should quit allowing netting the crap out of them in the river and the ocean. They will use this to blame for their bad management if there is a subsequent population drop in the run. If we have a good run of fish the next few years they will claim they saved the fish.....

That is exactly right, these landslides and disasters have to happen every few decades to cull out the weak genes from the pool, it might take decades to recover naturally but they will. All the commercial fishing is what is screwing up the populations. All they need to do is adjust the quotas proportionately based on this event, however it might mean closing down the fishery for a few years which unfortunately impacts people's livelihoods so they'll never do it.

Noting that the cold weather has hampered the efforts to deal with the slide, the new Fisheries Minister could not miss an opportunity to put a positive spin on the matter:

"It's just such an inaccessible area and it's been a gargantuan effort between the federal government the provincial government and First Nations," Donaldson said. "The relationships built between those three levels of government has been amazing."

Unfortunately if those words were true, we would be one hell of a lot further along in dealing with the matter...
