Default Place to shoot near Canmore

I have scoured the internet for hours trying to find a place near Canmore that I can go and do a little target practice. all the ranges that I have found required a yearly membership. I also know that I could go to the indoor ranges in Calgary, but I would like to take a few new shooters out to do a little plinking and it would be way nicer to do that somewhere else. If anyone knows of a range or some land that I can go to, and is willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Im only in the area for another month and clean up after myself.

Thanks!

How far do you want to drive, what type of vehicle do you have? Can't you go find some crown land and walk a safe distance from the road.

I would prefer to keep the driving under an hour. I have 4x4 so most stuff won’t be an issue. I’ve been looking for a good crown land map but can’t see to find in I can make sense of

Default Canmore Range

There is an excellent range east of Canmore but it would require a membership. You would save a lot of gas money by joining.

Outdoor ranges in Calgary area are all full for 2018!

The Indian Graves area down South is popular for shooting on Crown Land. The IHunter app is a cheap way to figure out Crown Land.

Good luck! I am searching for a closer area as well.

I think if the powder face trail is open cutting over to mclean creek might be your best bet.

This map shows where you can and can't shoot.

I could be wrong but I think for that range you have to know someone who’s already a member to have a chance of gaining membership.

If you are referring to rosebud then that seems to be the case.

No. There’s a different one. It’s in the bow valley. I know the town of Canmore has a goal of shutting it down.

Apologies if it has already been mentioned:

1. Dead Man’s Flats has a range which I was a member of 10 years ago. About 10min east of Canmore. Don’t know who you contact but the Canmore RCMP branch or a CO would be a good place to ask.

2. For a cool $3500 buy an Anschutz biathlon rifle, join the Canmore biathlon team and shoot at the Canmore Nordic Centre. 22cal lr only though!
