Default What's a good rod for trolling a lead core line

Heading out to BC in early September for some fishing at Hathaway Lake off Hwy 24. Bringing the fly gear but also some spinning gear. Am thinking I'll get a reel loaded with colored lead core line to get down deep, want to be prepared as I expect the water to be fairly warm still. Haven't tried this before but have heard good things. I've got an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C3 6500 reel I used to use on the Fraser for sockeye that I think should work for the lead core. It's sitting on a 10'6" Shimano Convergence river rod though, and I'm thinking I can find a more suitable rod for trolling for kokanee, etc...

Suggestions?

TIA

Slow trolling Ford fenders or other flashers with wedding ring should get some kokanee. I prefer no weights. But fewer colors on 6500 might work ok.

Dipsy divers or jet divers work well. I like trolling flutter spoons. As for the rod any trolling or dypsy rod will work fine. Get what ever fits your budget

I've got a pretty good selection of spoons, wedding bands, etc... as well as lots of Ford Fenders and other gang troll options.

I'm wondering what length/action of rod would be best suited to the 6500 for trolling a lead core. Medium action, 7' or 8' maybe? I think I'll pop into The Fishin' Hole this week and see what they have.

I wouldn't waste the money on lead core. Just run with a 3-way. The deeper you want to go the heavier the sinker, or as suggested above use a dipsy diver, as to the rod a good ol 8ft. Ugly Stik will do the trick easy and not break the bank.

That's true, however I like the idea of the coloured line. Different colour for every 10' gives a pretty good indication of where you're at. Lead core only runs about $20 or so, and the guys trolling for summer kokanee that I've chatted with swear by it. Good choice on the rod, was leaning that way in the 7-8' range.
