Default Portable Folding-Front Goose Blind Project Completed

This past winter, Pixelshooter and I started yacking back and forth about fabricating some portable fold-front waterfowl blinds. Pixel knew exactly what he wanted:

- Metal frame panels that pin together for an assembly time of less than five minutes.

- Lightweight.

- Big enough for three.

- Fit flat in the back of a pickup snugly between the wheel wells.

- Comfortable.

- Most importantly, a front that only needs a gentle push to release the magnets so it flops down leaving just you and the geese, with no having to pop up from your chair, then pulls back up with a light tug on a rope until magnets engage again.

Basically, our goal was to take the best features of an Avian X Blind and do our best to improve upon it, which I am confident we achieved. I am also happy, as not everyone is able to enjoy a hunt out of a layout. In particular, I have a very good friend who is now older, who hauled me all over Alberta hunting and trialing pointing dogs as a teenager, and these blinds will allow my son and I to hunt with him in comfort.

Well after a tremendous amount of time and effort, sourcing metal and hardware, and working together to build the frames, we have both completed our units.

Here are some pics of one of mine that I did a test run with this afternoon...

Looks great but I would put some kind of drop in bench seat about 16-18" high (pinned)across the back and brackets (like eaves trough) on each side to keep ammo, calls, coffee etc. off the ground and within easy reach.

Are you going to weave the willows through soft page wire and just roll it out around the blind. I did that with most of my blind and it lets you set up and take down all the willows in a couple of minutes. I like the drop front, I have seen them before and they seem to work well.

Under the bench makes for a nice area for storing coats and blind bags. Carrying chairs all the time can be a bit of pain, but it will work great just the way it is to!

Looks good. I like the drop down front. You may want to cut the willows so they give a bit of top cover for those birds that can look down into the blind.

That would work awesome on the edge of a field or on a cutline for deer and moose too.

Looks effective. Well done!
As mentioned, it looks like a multi purpose blind. Waterfowl , big game, coyote...
