Nope. They aren’t talking about it, made a few calls and the answer was scripted “no decision has been made” literally word for word from everyone.

After all the negative publicity in Suffield and Jasper, seems like maybe they got the message about racist policy. My guess is they will deal with the elk internally, but that’s just a guess.

Dealing with it internally will mean First Nations guaranteed they'll just keep it on the low down.

I have a friend who works at EINP and basically it's such a divisive issue no one wants to touch it. So it's staying as is for right now.

Maybe they’ll just transfer some off to the Blackfoot?

Haha no the treaty hunters have phones and Instagram too.

By internally I mean cull by hired shooters with non-disclosure agreements and no meat recovery. That was on the menu for Jasper at one time and has been floated for EINP due to CWD. But like I said, I’m just guessing. They didn’t tell me anything.

Really hope they hold an any-elk tag, lottery draw hunt. Perfectly fair to everyone, no waste.

There’s already a bunch of jump gates built into the fence, the elk on the southern side can cross anytime. Not so much on the north. Would be cool to see a wildlife overpass built but expensive

Remember how the suffield pictures were leaked with a strict no cameras/no pictures policy

They would never do that unless they could keep the bison herds separate.
The passes they have in Banff are really cool though. Track traps, cameras, keeping an eye on whos crossing and when. I saw a documentary about them many years ago, that was done after the first one was completed.

interesting thoughts by those guessing. I've heard different info then those who seem to know what the plan is. I'm sure we will hear an update in the next 6 months or so.

They know they need to do something so it's just a matter of time before things are finalized.

It's not as divisive as people here seem to think.

I actually used to build the elk traps at EINP, pretty cool systems. They would bring to central facility and blood test all for liver fluke and I believe brucilosis? before transporting to as far as Tennessee! Hope they find a way to work out a hunt that leaves a level playing field for all.

P.S. BEST SUMMER JOB EVER!!
