Congratulations!

Now if the government hadn't been using your money interest free for the last year or so, da guns would already be in your safe.

You can get your taxes reduced at source if you want to you know. I used to do it. If you are going to put $X into an RRSP your employer can reduce your tax deductions at source by $X. The idea is to owe or get refunded $0 at the end of the year. It's nice getting a chunk of change at tax time though.

I like Coopers a lot, but I already have something else in the works...and hope it works out...

Perhaps when you come up we'll stay at the Ritz and hire on some assistants to carry our rifles and drive us around....

I did well last year because I claimed the home renovation credit. It cost me $13K to get back about $2K though. This year I got back $450 (I don't know why) but my wife's was pretty much even with a refund of $30.

Sorry to derail Arn. Hunterdave. Can you tell me more about the home renovation credit. We've been doing a major reno for the last 7months.

x2 Yeah, it was an initiative to stimulate the economy during the start of the recession. You might qualify for rebates if you are upgrading a furnace though. I think that there are rebates in place for other things like replacing windows, etc to make your home more efficient. If I remember correctly it involves paying someone to come into your house to evaluate what improvement can be made before you do the renos.

I will get to see the blurry streak of my rather substantial return as it zips from my account where it stops to get fuel, right into the outstretched hand of my smiling lawyer.

Lolo,, wouldn't that be cool eh.. If a guy could at least decide what part of the country his money went.. I wonder how those boys out in Quebec would make out then ??? Bet they would have a different attitude towards separation with empty bellies eh..

Thanks guys after I asked I did a search & found it right away. I replaced both furnaces. All the windows & did spray foam insulation. Hoping to get some return on that.

I also found that I may be able to get some of the GST back as we did do a major reno. The criteria for major reno is that you have to have renovated 90 percent of the home. I'm pretty sure we did 90 percent but I'll have to do some measurements.

I never celebrate the filing of a tax return until i have the cheque in hand and even then you always wonder for about 7 years after you get it when they will try and take it away from you again.

I would get a second look after H and R block. You can get a really accountant for a better deal and they know there stuff. Instead of person making 10 per hour with like one day training.

have used them for about 15 years without issue...and my claims are pretty straight forward...

My Uncle is a Chartered, and his son, my first cousin, is a Chartered too...
they both recommend H&R block... if you're just doing simple claims.
