Bighorn backcountry--off of the forestry trunk road between Sundre and Norddegg--is nice. There's a map online somewhere...

I just got back from west yellowstone last week. It was my first experience riding any mountains. It was unbelievable! I know its not in alberta like you asked but not a bad drive. Hotel only 53 a night for double beds and cheaper gas. I will be going back next year

I know your looking for places in Alberta and low-avalanche areas, but IF you have the chance go to the mountains, Golden, Revelstoke, Sicamous have some wicked places!

Most areas there have a cabin and usually (sometimes) a lake/pond, meadow thats easy and fun to play around in. If you have the right sled and equipment you can go back in the bowls and trees where it's just awesome.

In Alberta, go down to the Crowsnest and they have some good spots there.

But eventually this will happen, lol

those pics were taken on the lost creek cabin road and in the lost lake basin. yo can access this area by going straight sought of blairmore, or southwest of the carbondale staging area near castle mountain resort. it is just a day trip from here, so we rarely stay overnight. there is a super 8 in pincher creek that is nice. we have also stayed at the BCMI in coleman.

If you are looking for an area for the less experienced rider, low risk, Altlas is a nice ride and easy area to navigate.. Was there three weeks ago, lots of powder in around Window, trail were groomed and we had a great day...

Crows Nest Mountain Resort is a great place, can ride into Altlas right from the cabins...

If you like more of a challenge, the rolling hills is full of powder, also heard Elkford was full and great conditions...

Enjoy, stay safe...

The town of Elkford is sweet. You can drive your sled around the town, fill up on your sled at the gas station, pretty nice!! A couple of nice spots there (from what i hear) but have not been to them.

Sounds like the Corbin staging are would be your best bet.... Basically just inside the BC boarder, coal creek road up to Corbin townsite to stage... Head in 3 miles and hang a right into Barnes Lake... Lots of fun in there, open areas to play, trees if you want, pretty safe area with riding for every level of experience...

If conditions are right, you can do the big bowls and mark if this is your thing... Good luck, ride safe.
