Whats your total arrow weight for hunting elk/moose? At what # and DL?

Current set up 31.5" draw, arrow 750grains. Not sure on speed w hunting arrow, 80lb limbs 366fps ibo.
For elk I love the extra punch if needed. Super tough critters. Although give some guys a 300 grain arrow and 150fps and they die in sight. Just a comfort thing. Double lung never fails ; )

Huracon? Are you shooting it at 32" draw? It's true IBO is 345ish. Don't get fooled by the numbers game.

Many bows that draw 32" can achieve that...few Archers have the capability to use bows at that length, you are lucky'

TRUE IBO, measured at 30", 350gr arrow at 70lbs.

The 366 is not an IBO value.

Just explaining IBO is a standard but to be measured correctly the standard conditions must be used.

GT Hunter XT with 100 gr Grim Reaper, total arrow weight of 460 grains. 298 FPS out of a 70 lb Darton 3800 at 29" draw, 350 FPS IBO. I find it is a great balance between speed and momentum.

A well placed shot is worth it's weight in gold. :-)

Most will agree 350 to 375 grains is target weight.
400 to 700 is hunting.

Simple as that.

I shoot 530 grains from an 80lb bow with a 30" draw at 290-295 fps. I wouldn't shoot less then 450 grains at a deer or roughly 500 grains on an elk or moose. To many bad experiences with light arrows and zero bad experiences with heavier arrows regardless of arrow speed. Momentum is important, especially on a bad hit. Kinetic energy or speed is allmost irrelevant in the real world. For 15+ years I shot through absolutely everything with a 630 grain XX78 and 125 grain thunderhead at less then 190 fps. Then I bought a chrono and tried those new to the market carbon arrows and it was all down hill for a few years. Keep the arrow weight up...

Wow. We have the 300 win mag vs. 270 win equivalent here as well. To a certain limit it is more to do with how sharp your broadhead is (and where you stick it) than how fast it's flying. Anyone hunting with a modern 60 lb compound and a 400'ish grain arrow is not under bowed.

After thought.. people with short draw lengths (27" and below) and lower end peak weights (55lbs and less) could push the bottom mass weight between target and hunting a bit lower than I posted.

Comes back to the importance of a well placed shot.

The only thing that ever interested me about gaining speed with a bow was
to be able to remove one of my site pins and go from 4 pins down to 3.
Less arrow drop comp. Less to think about.

Would not help at all with left or right variables but would lessen the effects
of vertical yardage guess.

And vertical drop magnifies as you move out more so than
left to right, at a faster rate.

So I thought out of the two directions horizontal vs vertical, the speed tech.
was moving in the right direction for bows, at least for hunting bows anyway.

Speed bows in my mind should help lessen the human error in yardage guest-amation, because the arrow drops less at longer ranges.

But the speed bow still needs to sling an arrow with mass to punch thru when
it hits.

13.1 " draw length I cant get past, pigmes, maybe ?
Don't know, scatchin' the head here on that one.

And the pigmes with a 13" draw still pull a 280lb. peak.

680gr from a #80 monster M6
lighter faster arrow with excellent penetration and flatter shooting, especially helpful in think bush trying to find a window for the buffs.

Put 3 arrows in the buffalo and had complete pass throughs on all of them, including going through a rib on the first shot.

Hippo hit a rib on entry and got a around 24" penetration.

Some cool hunts, that set up must hit hard!

FMJ around 450gr from a BTX 31 @70lbs. Didn't put through chrono but it's a blazing fast flat shooter that packs a punch
