Default Good lapping compound

Bought a new set of ruger rings and the one ring is not very smooth and doesn't align good enough with the other ring. What's a good lapping compound and where can I buy it? I have a 1" od steel tube already.

Can Tire and Partsource sell a valve lapping compound that comes in a 300/600 grit combo pack. I think its ~$10

You may even have to ream them. I have seen some pretty bad alignments on Ruger rings.

They are pretty bad. I've never seen such chitty rings before. If I can't lap it smooth I will just take the rear ring back

Just be aware they may not take them back if you alter them.

Hard to say if the problem is the ring or the receiver. Unless your concern is just with the smoothness of the ring rather than the alignment. Is this the case? Leeper

Yea my problem is with the uneven surface of the ring. I picked up some 800 and 600 grit emery cloth. I will see if that makes a difference.

Just degrease the ring bottom and bed the scope in epoxy. Don't forget the release agent. This will give you a smooth, level, surface. Leeper
