Parks Canada is asking for the public’s help to find a poacher after a large bull elk was killed with a crossbow in Jasper National Park.
The elk’s body was found in the Palisades-Snaring Road area about 10 kilometres east of Jasper on Sept. 5.
Hunting in national parks is strictly prohibited, and elk also are covered by special protections in place.
Killing an elk can be punishable by a fine of up to $750,000 or five years in prison.
Anyone who was noticed any suspicious or unusual activity in the area of the Palisades picnic site or Snaring Road between Sept. 3-5 is asked to contact a park warden.
Wardens are also interested in anyone who may have taken pictures of large bull elk in the area during the same time period.
