Default Chinchaga River Adventure

A friend of mine asked if I was interested in using my jet boat to take him and two archaeologists from the U of A down the Chinchaga River to the mouth of the Hay River on a 160 km day trip. I had never been on the Chin with my boat so I suggested we do a test run today. So this morning he and I went downstream 30 km. to check things out. A little shallow in places but I'll tell you it is beautiful! So I'm off on a little adventure tomorrow and am pretty excited. I will post some pics when I get back.

Good for you man. It's a great trip.
I assume you are running from the crossing on hwy 58 downstream to the forks and back to 58?

We did the trip about 3 years ago. It was awesome! The wildlife alone is worth the trip.

Keep us posted.

Sure would like info on the area. Always wanted to do spring bear hunt. Do not have jet boat. Could you take small 14' boat on the river in the spring? Where are putting in? Any info and pics would be appreciated
Enjoy your adventure!!!!!!!!

Actually, the archaeologists were not from the U od A but rather from a Grande Prairie company called: Taiga Archaeology

We made it down and back without any issues. Saw tons of bird life but no mammals, though the evidence of them was all around us. Caught a couple pike in the Hay river, but did not have a chance to fish the confluence.

Yes, I have a friend who does just that almost every year. He carefully travels downstream and back in the spring using a 14 foot boat with 20 horse.

Nice.
Don't forget to dip a gold pan in those gravels.

Funny you say that. One of the guys on the trip was saying the same thing whenever we went by gravelly/rocky areas.

I keep a few pans in my 14 ft Lund now.
You never know.

Not meant to hijack your river boat trip thread, the trip looked like fun.
Pic is 400 specks from North Sask R from 3 days ago.
