Default Has anyone sold a firearm to Cabela’s?

When at the store the other day I noticed that they now buy firearms.
Just wondering if anyone has sold a firearm to them, and if the offer was fair, or was it low-ball pawn shop pricing?

I have a lot of rifles and shotguns that I would like to sell, and it would be easier to do it all at Cabela’s if pricing is reasonable.

Thanks!

Cabelas Edmonton has always bought guns. Expect them to pay you 65% of what they will sell it for. I only ever sold them one and it was something I didn’t want to sell to anyone myself.

Sell them privately, you will get a much better value for them. I would only sell them to cabelas if it was a quick sale situation required, like a divorce or your PAL is about to be revoked.

As others have said. Post them on here and make stipulations if you want. Want to sell them as an entire lot? Do it. Just price accordingly. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Good luck with whatever you choose

You will get about 60% of its value.

Sell it here and do a lot better financially.

Sell it yourself, like others suggested, or go Prophet River consignment way.

I have sold dozens through Prophet River. They have sold the firearms for more than I would have asked, and I didn't have to deal with shipping, or the tire kickers.

You won’t get near what you are asking. Just for fun I took a couple in there once, after what they offered I didn’t even let them go over the other ones. Best to do private deals is you want to get what they are worth.

Take your guns to the store and see what they're offering. I had a rifle that I couldn't sell, after 2 yrs of having it posted online, I took it to Corlanes in Dawson and they bought it for the exact same amount I was asking for.

You will always get more return selling on your own. Any business buying anything used is looking to make a profit so you have to expect a lower price than what it is worth since they will need to sell it for what it is worth.

The question then is "Am I willing to deal with tire kickers and lowballers before getting to someone who wants to buy my rifle(s) for fair market value or is it a headache I don't want to deal with and I am willing to leave some meat on the bone for a business that will do it instead of me?"

That all very much depends on the individual. I think the forums here are a good place to start. If you list it and get more headache than it is worth, you can always change your mind and sell it to a business like Cabelas, but you might be surprised that if it is price properly and is a desirable item, how quick it sells and ends up in the hands of one of our community.

I have sold 2 guns at Cabellas.
They take about 30% from what they will retail it for, leaving you with 70%.
It was convenient and I was taken to the cash register and got my share in cash that same day, in and out of the store within 30 minutes. Courteous, Quick and easy. You also can goto gun show after gun show or have all kinds of strange people coming to your home viewing you guns 🥴🥴😳😳if you hope to squeeze some extra money out of it. Be my guest.
Guns you don’t want or need, is money tied up. I prefer the quick easy, for somewhat less money now, then the “full worth” a few years from now with all the hassle it brings.

I would never buy a gun from Cabelas consignment. First, they ask too dang much money, and second, as one poster mentioned, places like that are often where people go to dump guns they wouldn't sell to someone they know. Same as an auction. Buy and sell here is good, as is Townpost.

You will find that is often the case. But never at Cabelas. They don't have a decent appraiser around with even a clue of gun values. Particularily hard to find and obsolete ones.
