Nice rifle. I have the 85 Bavarian Carbine in 30-06. I mounted a Z3 in Extra Low Optilocks. Picked up all my Optilocks at P&D.

FYI, the Z3, 3-10X42 and the Z5, 3-18X44 both fit in Extra-Low, One Piece.

That is good to know. I will most likely buy the scope at P&D unless I get lucky and find a BRH on the Buy & Sell, so I can try the low rings I have now and a set of extra low from them. I am also interested to see if the longer Z5 is affected by the rear sight. I want to keep the open sight so I may end up with a Z3 for the shorter scope length.

Fordtruckin - not sure about the recoil pad as gun hasn't landed yet. My bet is it is hockey puck soft, most of the Sakos I had were like that.

My sig line says it all. Nice rifle you have there for sure. Welcome to the 06 club, home of the tried and true….

The Sako recoil pads on any of the wood stocks is more of a plate than it is a pad. There is no sponge nor recoil absorption.

When the scopes are mounted low, and if the optic is on a low magnification, yes, the front sight is visible but it does not interfere with sight adjustment nor alignment on the target. If my scope is dialled down to 3X, I can see the top of the sight.

Try a scope with lower magnification. No reason to put a big scope on a hunting rifle like this.
