Luv my Weinrauch. Air arms is another good one to look at. It's not about speed. Anything in retail stores is a waste of money imo. Check out SSO in BC. 2 day delivery.

I have a crossman....i think it shoots .177 pellets at around 1200fps. It will kill a crow at 60 yards stone dead. I think i paid 130 bucks for it at Wholesale Sports. They often have real good sales on pellet guns.

You live in Calgary right.....
If a neighbor reports seeing someone with a rifle, or pistol, shooting birds you Will get a very unfriendly visit from CPS.
Invest in a trap.

This x 2. One cannot be waving such items about inside city limits in this day and age, consider what such a visit from LE would do to your PAL status..... there are many magpie trap threads and so far as squirrels go there has to be many way to trap them as well; I've even had them in my magpie trap twice. Just yesterday some twit was arrested in a NE McDonalds who was carrying a paintball gun that to the uninitiated would look like what the press loves to call an 'assault rifle', a citizen was wrestling with the guy because of it. (turns out the guy arrested for the paintball gun had some crack, meth, pot and heroin on him, fair to say he had more than a 'replica' gun problem)

Great question. Not sure there is any legislation regarding discharging a pellet gun in your yard. Albeit as long as its below 495 fps...
Sure your neighbors might get their panties tight but is there a law?

I might argue your analogy, that would be a utility company who by agreement has access to metering/services, in my interpretation that would be a private party, having a meter in your property does not mean all public has access to it.

well your opinion and the court's opinion seem to differ. it has been hashed out here lots.
shoot it in your basement not in your backyard
if you want to shoot guns in your backyard don't live in the city

If your gate is locked it's certainly not a public place. My reading of the bylaw is such that as long as your yard is not visible (fenced back yard) to the public then it does not meet the definition of public place. Front yard is another story.

What if the police want to "inspect" your home to ensure your guns are stored safely? Can they just walk in?

lets forget about where he lives... What kind of airgun will fit the bill of killing crows and magpies. Accurate and can reach out more than 20 yards.
I'm in the market myself but live in the country...

But it says right there that you live in Calgary!! Lets all insult your intelligence and insinuate that you might be a poacher...
Just kidding, you guys don't know the OP's actual situation, and he's certainly been sufficiently warned... now what air gun would you use to kill magpies and crows? Enough with the silliness.
I too am in the market for a pellet gun. I get woken up early in the morning by magpies and ravens, but am un-willing to cut loose with the shotgun at the crack of dawn or lob 22 bullets at the tree tops and into the surrounding acreages.

Criminal Code
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
88 (1) Every person commits an offence who carries or possesses a weapon, an imitation of a weapon, a prohibited device or any ammunition or prohibited ammunition for a purpose dangerous to the public peace or for the purpose of committing an offence.
If your shooting in your backyard for magpies crows or even target practice purpose could be considered to have endangered anyone else because the bullet could continue into someone else's space, then you could be facing a criminal weapons charge.
A pellet gun is considered a weapon, even if it doesn't meet the firearms 500 fps requirement. A bow or a slingshot or home-built potato launcher would even fit the bill. Its all going to come down to if there was a 'Danger' to someone else because of the activity.

talk about off the rails. The Op didn't ask for anyones expertise on laws or regulations or your expertise in this respect for that matter. asked a simple question on a quality pellet gun to do the job.
stick to original topic. start a new thread if you want to take it off the rails

How do you know they are " CITY " squirrels, crows, and magpies? What if they're just visiting from the country and are " RURAL " squirrels, crows, and magpies?
Do the RURAL ones have UCP badges? And the City ones where orange?
