I knew of birth control pills effecting fish but this is more scarey!

Officer, it isn't for me.
It's for the fish.

That was the premise for an episode of King of the hill...

Well at least I know it's nothing I've done wrong when the fish won't bite. They are just strung out and not wanting to eat

Huge amount of pharmaceuticals are present in all streams downstream of major centers. Birth control pills and antidepressants are just the main ones.
As we continue to drug our populations, the environment will bear the consequences in ways that aren't well understood at this time

Problem is the contaminated water gets into the ecosystem. For instance, use salmon as an example that spend part of their time in freshwater before heading out to the ocean. The Fraser River is a very polluted water way. Year after year generations of salmon are hammered with this polluted water. This probably explains in part one of the reasons why salmon numbers are on the decline.

Default Second thoughts

I do realize this is a problem. Even if we eliminated what we all think the root cause is (prescription flushers). I think we might find that the drugs we consume and “eliminate” have a significant impact as well.

Is this why sturgeon are so big…… it’s the water…

I'll make sure to get on the water April 20th.

Thanks for the hot tip!

Yes the biggest problem is from urine, not flushing pills.
There is a lab at the U of C that has done research on the pharmaceuticals and their effects on zebrafish.
