Default Shuswap shore fishing help

So for how big of a fishery it is I’m having a hard time getting info on it. I’m gonna be there for 5 days end of August. The little info I have found is only for trolling which I may not get a chance to do. I’m goin with the family and have 3 kids under 4 so I think most of my opportunity to fish will be short and from shore. We are staying just outside salmon arm. All I’m looking for is to catch some fish. Don’t really care what. But I know there are whitefish so they should be fishable from shore. Even squafish I’m open to. Which I have caught some small ones from shore there. Just wondering if anyone has success in the Morning or evening catching whitefish or anything else from shore. I fly and spin fish.

as far as I know there is no bait fishing allowed in the Shuswap, flies and spinners and cranks . Check your regs all info is in them.

There aren't whitefish in the Shuswap on that arm. The far west side of the salmon arm isn't very fishable this time of year, especially from shore.

Squawfish seem to like slow, bright presentations.

The Shuswap is an amazing fishery that has to be done right (like any big water). I've found a boat a must except in the winter months.

If you want to catch fish with the kids there are great smaller lakes nearby fishable from shore. Try Phillip's or pyramid nearby.

Also, Westside Sports is a sponsor and the guys in there fish the Shuswap often. Go in and talk to Jay, Todd or Bill and you'll learn something.

I've fish from the dock at my Bro-in-law's place near Scotch Creek (I know no where near the Salmon Arm) - haven't done all that well, but I've caught a few nice rainbows (and a few Northern Pike Minnows)... 6 wt with a sink tip and various larger buggers (eg., Bowriver, etc.). See sporadic rises around dusk, but haven't caught anything on the top water, always subsurface.

I haven't fished much right by Salmon Arm so my only suggestion for shore fishing is if you are catching squawfish speed up reeling in and the trout might be more interested.

Don't be afraid to try some good old red devils or five of diamonds spoons on the spincast too. Len Thompson heavy 3 inch spoon. I tried spoons from shore on the Okanagan lake and caught trout regularly. It was summer so I waded out a few feet to cast further. Overcast days were better.

Remember to check the regs as BC is Single Barbless, so you are required to swap out all the trebles to singles or clip off 2 of the 3!!

Not true steams and river yes, and various lakes like the Shuswap. Bc regs are very area specific I suggest reading them very diligently http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/#Synopsis. Was bass fishing around canmore recently barbs where not an issue and was checked for my license twice ( Infact the f and w said there just bass we really do not)

I didn’t see that Shuswap was single hooks only in the regs but I mostly plan to fly fish or I do have a bunch of stuff for bc that is already switched to single hooks that I would use anyway. And no I don’t plan to bait fish. Already saw that in the regs as well. Thanks for the help. I kinda figured shore fishing would be tough this time of year as I have experienced in many similar lakes.

Default squaw fish

Put on a bead head and fish close to the bottom of any shallow weedy area and you will be rewarded with Squaw fish and you are right the kids won't care "a fish is a fish in their eyes"

Canmore isn't in BC.

Yes bait ban and single barbless for the Salmon Arm area, as per the regs!!

Bait ban, single barbless hook (anglers fishing from the community pier in the City of Salmon Arm are exempt from the bait ban)

I'm from Salmon arm, and i'd say it's not worth shore fishing around there. At the warf there are suckers which I've seen people fish for, I think bait might be allowed at the warf too but not sure. Try gardom lake (15-20 minutes from Salmon arm), it has a good public dock to fish from and you'll likely have some luck with chironomid flies, leech patterns or bait near the end of the dock.
