Default 2 Great Days With Fly Rod

As some know I took up fly fishing this summer. I had 1 good day earlier in the year and then tried a couple times after with limited success. On Sunday I went out to a nice little lake and ended up catching 3 on the fly rod including a new PB with the fly rod, close to 14 in. The wind picked up so I ended up switching to the casting gear but other then that was a decent day.

Yesterday I was storing my boat for the winter and decided to stop by my favourite little trout pond on the way home. I found a nice little sheltered part of the lake and within 3 hrs I had caught and released 12 trout all around 11-13 in, easily my best day of fly fishing. Most of them had some beautiful colouration as well.

Fly fishing once you catch on to it, it is a lot of fun.

On another note what kind of boat do you use? I am looking for a one man fishing boat easy to load and unload. So far I am interested in the Hobie Angular and the Sea Eagle Frame-less pontoon boat.

Mine is an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13, thefishinhole and cabelas both sell them but I bought mine used from the States since it was much cheaper.

I really enjoy it as it is good to get on small ponds but can also use it on larger water like Wabamun etc. Very stable and easy to paddle.

I can vouch for the quality of the sea eagle. I have owned the explorer 380 kayak since 2008. Great quality boat. Not sure about the pontoon, but mine went through the widowmaker with ease.

Thanks RavCanoe; I checked them out at the Fishing Hole this past weekend. There was one there with an electric motor very interesting. I have to save a few pennies will wait for the March Sportsman Show in Edmonton to see what kind of deals there might be then. I live at the East end of Edmonton if you need a fishing partner or if I can help with fly fishing and tying let me know.

Gary

The other fishing kayaks are definitely very interesting well worth the time to do some shopping.
