This is my 5th Springer and I have enjoyed every one of them. I have not used them much for grouse but Buffy seems to like them. I can't wait to try her on Pheasants. One got out of the pen a few weeks ago and she caught it an bought it back, put it back in the pen with no harmful effects. It is tough not to enjoy watching a good dog work.

Very interesting! So how does this work, I mean with the dog? Does the dog flush the birds out or point them?
I also have an English cocker spaniel who loves sniffing trails. But honestly I have no idea how he would work out in hunting grouse.
My another concern is if he sees a coyote - he will want to go and say hi to him... yes I know I didn’t do a good job training him....

Springer's are flushing dogs, If the birds are on the ground keep the dog back and aim for the head. After that let the dog retrieve them. If there are any more around she will flush them in to a tree. With luck it will be in to a tree where you can see them. I had a Welsh Springer that would go sit under the tree the grouse flew into. It took the dog a while to train me as to what she was doing. But it was neat to see once I learned what she was doing.
