Yup, all the time. I have a TC 54 cal persuasion cap, and a 50 cal traditions flintlock. Shot deer and moose with the 54 and deer and grouse with the flintlock. I shoot shot loads using a 50 cal sabot as a shot cup for grouse.

Mine is a .50

My advice, tape up the muzzle, use bee's wax or nail polish to seal the primer to the nipple, put wax paper between the patch and the powder, and don't get the rifle warm in cold weather. With care I can leave a load in for a week and still count on it going off.

Not on a regular basis anymore but at one time side lock rifles were all I used.
Still regularly hunt pheasants with a side lock muzzle loader however.
