^^^this^^^

The reason for hanging the meat is to get the scent up in the air, animals don’t generally look up to find their food.

Here are some pics from a trail cam we set up after the grizzly climbed the tree and took my goat meat and Cape.

This meat was hanging 17ft in the tree after they took the bulk of my meat we decided to hang the trial cam with some small scraps from deterring them from coming into our camp.

Did you drag the meat up the tree as you hoisted it up? They will follow the scent up the tree. The idea is to hoist it straight up without dragging it up the tree.

Maybe you’re dealing with educated grizzlies though.

Sorry to hear about your cape and meat.

We hoisted the meat in one quick motion pretty sure that grizzly smelt it regardless of it being dragged up a tree or not.

Default Does the bear know?

A common belief/saying was "grizzly bears can't climb trees".

I would always reply " and does the bear know that"?

Great pics astepanuk!

Creeky....

One time Calgary zoo keepers found their sow grizzly 20-30ft up a tree. They had to tranq her as she couldn't get back down.

Indeed they do, and contrary to popular belief they use Charmin, not bunnies to clean up after,...

I was always told growing up that they didn’t and that I would be safe from them in a tree. Was obviously misinformed. Really glad I didn’t have to try the theory out.

This photo is one of many out there that prove, definitively, grizzly's can climb.

It never surprised me to learn that old saying that grizzly's don't climb trees was a myth.

What did surprise me is that coyotes climb trees. That one floored me.

Don't climb a tree thinking you'll be safe!

If they can't shake you out of the tree they pull the tree out by the roots to get you.

Dangggggg

I’ll never underestimate critters again...I usually don’t. Amazing pics of the grizz in this thread! No doubts but the validation is worth those thousand words!✌️

My understanding has always been, young grizz can readily climb trees. Older grizz have been seen actually pulling themselves up by grasping branches. however they are unable to climb like a black bear with their shorter claws.
