Default Grouse hunting

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has seen some decent amount of grouse in or around WMU 346 or 337? Want to take the kids our chicken hunting on the weekend. So far 337 has been slow.... Maybe another bad year. Any info would be great!

A wise old trapper up around Grande Cache told me when I asked him where the moose were hiding ." The moose are where you find em" same likely applies to grouse. This time of year you are more likely to have success tromping the bush than the roads though , they are well hidden with lots of tall grass and foliage still standing

I’m just north of those units (349/350/507 etc) and I’d say there’s more birds around then last year(that wouldn’t take much improvement really)I haven’t been bird hunting but just checking cams and hanging a cpl stands last weekend I flushed a decent number of birds I spose, one clutch of 5 and another herd of 8 or 9 ruffs at dusk Sunday eve.....which might be more birds in one day then I seen all hunting season here last fall,lol....not even kidding though, last year was awful,
I don’t recall ever seeing more then 2 or 3 together last year let alone 5 or 8.

Have seen quite a few this summer, and expect it to be a great season.

Was hoping to head out this weekend, but my usual haunts are going to be a muddy mess. Argh.

We spent the opener in 349 and saw lots. To be more accurate, we heard lots . Still a ton of cover for them. Much better numbers than last year I think.
This snow will knock down a lot of the grass and under brush. Should be able to see more this weekend.

Wow, what a difference a year makes. Last year was horrible, but this year seems to be great. Was out both days on the weekend and had 5 birds by 10 am. I hope to get out again next weekend but it's hard with two kids in hockey to get the free time.

Still lots of leaves on the trees but they should be gone soon with the forecasted weather.

Last couple years where I hunt there were way more grouse than I’ve seen this year. This year has been very quiet in my usual spots. Still could change quite a bit with the weather but I have my doubts for these areas

No grouse but spooked up a covey of Hungarian partridge on the weekend.
I limited out last year up near Calling Lake last fall.

I can second that, have been taking out my little siblings and their friends this year because it’s been so consistent, great way to introduce them to hunting!

Couple buddies were just west of Cynthia driving lease roads and they limited out by lunch. We picked up 8 over the weekend on the west Fawcett road in 511 while deer hunting. Best grouse season I have seen in years.
