My guess would be issue more tags and keep the slaughter alive and well in the hands of Albertan's.

first no more outfitter tags for mule deer and close the season for a few years. It took me 6 years to get a mule deer draw and this fall I seen less than 50 deer total I have live in the area I hunt for37 years and 6 years early when I had my last tag we would see over a 100 deer every morning and I passed up alot of nice deer and this year the biggest I seen was a small 4 point buck.We have had some bad winters that wiped out a huge portion of the deer herd, but in my area they are still giving out 2 doe tags, our mule deer population is in serious trouble.

But this is Alberta, so cancelling the resident tags, and allowing APOS to keep all of their allocations is more likely.

Default Fish and Wildlife

Their only concern is to manage the access to wildlife and the tax revenue from it, not manage the asset.....

Some seem to think this, but the reality of it is Sask has the same population now that Alberta had in the early 70's..

Could sask seem so much better due to the lower populations? Or that maybe people don't move to sask with hunting as a resident there main or somewhat of a factor for moving?

Imagine how mad most of you guys would be if we had a lottery draw like sask (I think) and the Newfie in the lunch trailer is going on about how lucky he is to draw a mule deer tag a few months after he moved to alberta because he didn't need to build priority for the lottery.

No one will ever be happy

Quit hunting zones that have low deer numbers

How is that outfitters in these zone still kill great deer

I get that the deer herds are not what they used to be but it doesn't rest solely on srd.

I'm sorry just my thoughts

Saskatchewan has a priority system, although it isn't as complex as ours. They also have a mandatory period of time to live in the province; before you qualify as a resident.

We have Saskatchewan and its game farming industry to thank for CWD and the resulting culls etc. which Alberta has been conducting for years. Without the disease and the resultant culls the concerns about declining mule deer numbers wouldn't exist.

Not 100% as there have not been any final decisions but Jim Allen and Margo are back at cwd crap. There newest one is to kill every deer inside an 10 mile area of any infected animals. In regards to actual management of our herds I think there are still talks as there is no change as of this fall.

Hey I am not against outfitting in the slightest but think like an Albertan and not a guide/outfitter. What would make it better for all user groups? Fighting like school kids does nothing. SRD is to blame for almost all of the problems here. Land owner tags and no wait times for becoming a resident are two of the problems. The abuse and illegal guiding from hunter hosts are another hurting things.

Not to belabour the point, but thanks to Saskatchewan and the game farming industry everywhere. But, most of all, thanks to the the bone headed politicians who allowed CWD to get started in the beginning.

Don't blame Jim Allen and Margo for doing their best to try to control the situation the only way they know how. If governments had listened to educated professionals like them in the first place, or even possibly used some common sense on their own, we wouldn't have the CWD mess and there'd be plenty of mule deer just like there used to be.

Then why are game farms still operating on Alberta as we speak? Wouldn't mitigating the issue involve taking pre-emptive action....instead of pointing fingers at the neighbours?

Pull your head out of the sand. Those two are old as dirt and need to be replaced by some one with a clue and has both feet out of the grave.

Lot more to the mule deer disaster then the cwd along the border. Way more crap SRD has done. Biologists included.

As elkhunter11 said "exactly". Pre-emptive action is precisely what is needed and it starts by putting as much pressure as we can, at every opportunity, on our elected representatives to kill the game farming industry once and for all. I've done it and I know lots of others on here have as well. So let's keep it up.

As for "pointing fingers at the neighbors", my comment about Saskatchewan was made in response to an earlier one on here bragging up that province's wildlife management policies and knocking Alberta's. I'm certainly not saying that Alberta is doing everything right. I am saying, however, that Saskatchewan and it's game farming industry is responsible for the spread of CWD to this province and you know that is true Lefty.

I'm also saying that CWD may be the single most serious and difficult conservation issue facing wildlife biologists in Alberta today and taking cheap shots at them, as others have done on here, accomplishes nothing.
