Default Watusi horns

A few guys have been asking for a few pictures of our Watusi animals. This is interesting.....The bull calf is "DBR General Patton" and he wont be 2 years old untill July. He was exactly the size of the yealing bull calf beside him a year ago.

It's a big deal to have a 20" horn base at full grown. The big bull in the background "Deigo" has 20 inch bases, but he's 10 years old. This bull calf is over 20" and he's not 2 yet.

It's crazy how fast he is growing.

I have a Watusi set I bought almost 25 years ago on a holiday to SD. IIRC they're about 73" wide, don't remember the base measurement (they're in storage). I probably should put them up.

Ive got the watusi cow skull that was shown on all the old "Hootenani in the hills" posters from the old Saskatchewan ho-down years ago. Very nice skull, a little weathered though, again a cow not a bull. That bull calf is gonna be spectacular! I hear they are a dirty bugger in the winter, gotta keep them from freezing thier horns up here in the north?

I know they can make pretty good bucking bulls when crossed with a Brehmer.

We're working on bucking the big bull in the back at Raymond this 1st of July. In the early stages of that right now. Probably the biggest horned bull to get bucked....I think.

My wife reassures me it's not about length; it's the girth that matters. I wonder if that bull calf is thinking the same thing.

Ya, they have been around for about 4000 years. The oldest breed in the world.

Hey that bull was Big! Ha ha I would've felt alot stupider if it hadn't thrown the pick up man off his horse and broke his pelvis. But I was gonna offer to see if Derrick needed a rider yet

Beautiful animals you have there Sheep Nut. I'd love to take the 'Shrubs' up to visit such a neat operation one day. No riding for me though!

Had a new addition yesterday. This was the first calf for this heifer. She is a great mom. In about a week we'll see horns starting to grow.

Grew up with Shorthorns at home and then working Holsteins up the road. Another neighbour took on a half dozen pure strain Highland cattle which were pretty cool, but a bit of a different temperament. To see your Watusi's up close would be a hoot, not to mention their historical significance.

Thanks for posting.

(Oh yeah, the mules are pretty awesome too! )

Just give me a couple days notice. We've got a fullsized Potbellied pig that guards our front door. Kids could pet her for hours. We've got several kid broke saddle horses and an outdoor arena for your kids to ride in, we could go for a wagon ride with the mules. Lots to do here for sure.

Will do. When the time comes I'll shoot you a PM for sure with lots of notice, SN.

Between armwrestling Ken or riding Deigo, I think there's some very serious wagering cannon fodder avaliable on this board at the moment.
