Default Was gas prices in 2008 really higher

Ive been really worried about gas prices lately. My parents said not to worry because it was still higher in 2008 and it fell back to under a dollar. Is this true do any of you guys remember it. I was not driving at the time.

The year I moved out here. 2005 I paid 1.50 in kenora. And then prices through out where 1.20 to 1.30. Worrying about fuel prices is pointless Imo.

Well maybe for you but I'm still a teen on limited income. Filling up my tank is a full days work.

I hope you have a relatively economical car, not an old gas guzzler. And just because you can drive now, don't throw away or sell that bike of yours just yet! Young people don't usually have a lot of money. Don't waste it all on your transport.

Anyways, welcome to adult world. Some of it's good.

Default Gas Prices

The last time gas was at $1.27 or so a liter here in Edmonton was in fact 2008. The big difference between then and now is that oil was trading at $153 a barrel then and it's only at $103 today. Almost 1/3 less. By that reasoning and doing the math we should be paying about .86/liter. It's all driven by the market speculators on Wall and Bay Sts.

You are right about the market speculators driving the prices.
The CME (Chicago merchantile exchange) is making some rather futile attempts to take some of the volatility out the market.

http://www.ctv.ca/generic/generated/...le2017473.html

Commodity exchanges were initially created so producers and consumers could trade products for future delivery.
Unfortunately, Investment bankers and hedge funds have taken the opportunity to use their huge cash holdings to manipulate the markets.
Obama claimed he was going to clean this up back in 2008 and 2009, but I suspect big $$ derailed his plan.
I personally believe that only producers and consumers should be able to trade in the CME.

It's supply and demand. I saw it on the electric TV so I know it's true.

Must be all that marine fuel being sold in the flood areas. I doubt those folks are driving much.

It's an oil company rip plain and simple, so what are you going to do about it?

I found this chart on the internets. Can't vouch for its accuracy, but interesting non the less.
