Default Lost in Nevada

Check this out.

Could you imagine living in your van for 49 days when you are totally unprepared and lost in the "wilderness". Pretty amazing that she survived.

Hope they find him.

49 days is an incredible amount of time in isolation in that kind of environment, without sufficient food. Amazing how the will to live can determine between life and death if it comes down to it.

Sad to hear about her husband, hopefully they find him and he's alright - although that appears to be quite optimistic.

I am always confused by stories like this....they came down a road did they not? and I am assuming that somewhere along that road it hit civilization...certainly not 49 days away till you hit some sort of civilization, or a car passes etc...I understand dehydration, exposure, deliriousness etc sets in and you can easily get off track....but i am always just baffled when people are lost and they do not just back track...you came from somewhere right??

Here's hoping that the husband gets found as well.

Had Mors Koshanski on Rutherford today, explaining what you go through on an extended Fast, like this lady did. Definitely pays to be obese here. Very interesting from a survival perspective.

What I gather is they got stuck, turning around. Easy enough to do that on our back country roads. Lot of that country is summer occupancy only.

The book, "Deep Survival" may shed some light into the psychology of what keeps people alive and what doesn't. For example an 8 year old girl is statistically better equipped mentally than a 28 year old male to survive in lost or isolated conditions.

Definitely worth a read....

The GPS he was using told them they were on a road that went through to a town when it was really a dead end road in the middle of the mountains.

I bet she will be one woman who will never say a bad word about HUNTERS.

Even the locals said that the area they were in was summer only and survival down there is unlikely so she is darn lucky to make it through as she did.

So lets Chalk one up for Hunting!

Quite an adventure and I'm glad she survived. It would be unbelievable if they find her husband alive. How far back from a traveled road were they?

My gps goes postal around the 'Hendy" in Edmonton. I don't trust the ones in the vehicle, but my handheld is outstanding.

Instance of flawed technology than can kill you. Reliance on your cell phone is another.

yes I understand that, but they came from somewhere right?..we have footage of them on a security camera...so they had to have come from somewhere, I just think a lot of people lose their head in these situations.

Of course following a faulty gps coordinate wouldn't help.

hope all ends well for them.

I'm glad she survived but I fear the worse for the husband.

The media reports I have seen suggest their location was 9 miles by road from the nearest residence and phone and 16 miles from a highway.

I think GPS is a dangerous tool if it points you cross country rather than following your tracks back to the pavement.
