Default West coast BC Tuna fishing

Anyone hear if the albacore tuna are being caught off BC in larger numbers these days with El Niņo?

Any forecasts?

Just check sportfishingbc.com. I doubt it since usually a summer/fall phenomenon. Check with the guides in tofino.

Have you gone out for them ever? Something I'd love to do but not till I get a bigger boat so going to have to wait a few years.

This summer will probably be great!!
Better have a strong stomach as you can run out for several hours to get to the fishing grounds.

Did this trip out of Westport, Washington in 2014. We went 50 miles offshore to find the Tuna... it was an all out feeding frenzy when we did find them... 167 Tuna between 10 people in about 10 hrs

Best times are Aug - Sept when the surface temps are higher.

Can't wait!

That's on my bucket list. How long is the boat ride?

I went on one trip off Maui. 4 hour boat ride to get to the fishing. Then 2 hours of solid catching then 4 hours of trolling.

I fished with Nootka Marine Adventures in August and they were starting to take guys out when I was there but they said the bite was on hard yet.
They said late august and into september is supposed to be amazing.
Like Buckbrush said they head quite far out, 30+ miles.

On a side note anyone looking for amazing salmon fishing. Nootka marine is the best ive seen in my 7 trips west. We went self guided and rented their boat and HAMMERED big springs steady.

whats a trip like that worth? rather do it that way next time.....
We went with a guy out of sooke and it was the worst experience of my life. We caught fish but the guide was such a loser I would never step foot near his boat again.

I fished Sooke a few years back, we took our own boat down. Too many people for me, very crowded. The fishing wasnt that great either.
All in we paid Nootka 2000$ pp. That included boat rental, gas, meals etc. With flights from Edmonton to Comox, liquor, car rental and fish shipping we paid 3000$ per person for 4 days fishing.
August long weekend we were there. Lots of 25lb ers.

That's awesome. Thanks, we will look into that as an option for next year!

You bet. They had some pretty good rates on last year due to the Alberta economy(or so we were told), so im sure this year will be the same. We fished out of their Nootka Sound Resort. Its a floating lodge approx 20 minute boat ride from their main base Moutcha Bay.
