Are your 2 or 3 lugs on your gun in 100% contact. I have never seen a gun do this. Some 2 lug actions look like full contact on one and 25% on the other. All my Weatherby's have all nine lug contacting. I cannot say all are the same amount. Its a problem for all guns not just the one with nine lugs.
It is relatively easy to lap the lugs on a two or three lug action,it is not as easy to lap nine lugs.On my Mark Vs,one had six lugs bearing, the other had seven lugs bearing when I blued the lugs and tested them.

The 7mm data I use is from Nosler 5th edition. I can match or beat this data with the powders I have tried. I can't tell you anything about your 257 other than Bergers are very sleek and will have a he!! of a time with the freebore. Use a roundnose As for the 7mm Rem... were you talking RUM, cuz thats faster but the 7mm Rem mag is definitly slower. I have had the Rem mag. Nice gun but not the same.
