I decided to freshen up the media in my tumbler. So I added some media recharger. I guessed the amount of media in my tumbler to be about 2lbs? So I added accordingly. However I now know that was way too much. I ran the tumbler with the lid off in hopes it would dry out. And it did to some extent. So I cleaned a handful of brass. When I removed the brass they were packed with media. After digging it all out. I noticed a residue of the red compound inside my brass. Will this affect my reloading? Beside fouling my barrel I’m assuming. Has anyone else had this happen and how can I clean the inside of these brass? I have ran them through the tumbler with a new batch of media and still no improvement. Thanks in advance.

You need a stainless pin tumbler. I’ve never seen a media tumbler clean the inside of brass yet.

That residue won't bother anything. If ya don't like it, give the brass a wash in hot water and let dry.

I have that red residue in my brass from my cleaning compound also
Never been a problem , the elk , moose, deer, coyotes, bear , that I shot did not notice a difference
It is a minor thing in my opinion, never caused me a problem in my rifles
I’ve been reloading since 1981 and it has never caused a problem

Load them up and shoot them.

I intentionally tumbled some Loaded Accubonds for a friend so he would have nice pink tipped bullets. Still killed everything.

If you feel the need for bright and shiny use a ultrasonic cleaner. They work great and no stainless steel pins to dump out of the brass.

Make damn sure your cases are completely free of media. I have seen brass where the media cakes in the bottom and causes pressure issues

Check primer pockets as well. I wet tumble all my brass no SS pins, then dry them in a cheap food dehydrator I found at Sally Ann. No more wasted time, digging crap out of the primer pockets and the brass comes out, nice and shiny, inside and out.

Once in a while the walnut media I use in my vibratory tumbler gets packed in a .308 or 45/70case. Part of my process I always use a pipe cleaner to clean out the flash hole last and use a brush to clean the inside of the cases out. So far never had an issue. I also don’t reload a whole lot. Few hundred rounds a year in 308 and 45/70.
