Default more fun with numbers.

Just to illustrate where the US is right now in familial terms...I don't know how far away Canada is from this but it would be fun to see a similar comparison.

Last time I checked, the world was here long before the US. And I like the US, worked there for years, and have relatives there.

Thats certainly true to an extent. The US was well and truly boned when he took office, but after his one term, The US racked up so much debt I dont think it's repayable. period. Also, despite being a democrat, his policies listed on his web page pretty much echoed GWB's, if I recall correctly. I dont care what party controls the gov't. Its akin to the cons vs liberals here. They're all politicians, you can tell they're lieing when their mouths move. It just depends on how much you agree with the individual politician's view on the issues, and what their track record was. How much did they lie before they got into office. Ron Paul's the only guy who has a shot of at least stabilising the US, but I dont think even he can fix the problem.

Well, what's wrong with being passionate about one's country, it's strengths & innate ability to bounce back & excel? I understand loving Canada, but when it overlaps with the lefty pastime of knocking the US...that's an issue with the lack of national identity for a few.

Nothing wrong at all about being passionate about one's country and displaying optimism for the future. We all need a little more of that here. Too much doom and gloom just gets depressing. Some Canadians just love knocking the U.S partly because the American culture often gets forced down our throats due to the heavy influence of American media programming here, and some just like to feel a little ultranationalism. Fair enough, no country, or leader's perfect. Can't we all just get along, sing a little kumbayah and pass the marshmellows?

US won't collapse.

if the need be, they'd lead on someone else until they are strong again. they'd step on anything and anyone to survive.

that's just how they are.

i really don't think the world can afford to let the US fail.

that being said i can't fathom how they will pay off the debt or get it to a reasonable level ... it will take decades in my mind.

but a lot of people underestimate the americans.

So far they havn't gotten any oil and very few oil contracts, China got them, Thanks Obama. They damn well better get some oil every last drop of it or it was a waste of money and lives, I hope the war wasn't to actually help the people of Iraq, what a waste.

No Bush and Israel started the war, but I have to believe Bush would of got some oil. Obama's a weak leader that bows to the Chinese. Doesn't make sense China, France, Russia got the big contracts and the USA was shut out. Thousands of Americans dead or injured and nothing to show for it except debt.

The war got nothing to do with oil. America pays the same price for oil to Iraq as it does to Norway, Mexico, Venezuala, or any other oil producing nation including Canada that they buy from. OPEC sets the barrel head price of oil and thats that. If the US wanted to start a war to steal oil then Canada would be the easiest most logical target for them, were right next door, they could smash our army and defences in a heart beat and it wouldn't cost them 5% of the cost of the Iraq war. America buys Iraq's oil and other middle east oil because those countries love selling it and love the money they get for it even more, it's as simple as that.

It annoys the crap out of me when I hear the idiotic nonsense ignorant people spew about America invading countries for oil. If the US wanted oil they would have spent the money they spent on the Iraq Afghanistan war and instead invested it into Gulf of mexico, midwest Shale oil deposits, north slope Alaska oil, etc, and get billions more barrels of oil far cheaper and with much less hassle than starting a war to steal oil. Some of you people are so clueless, it's hard to believe..........

AND THANK THE LORD FOR ALBERTAN OIL MONEY AND THE AMERICANS FOR KEEPING US SAFE, SO we wouldn't have to spend our own money on defence.
That's pretty rich coming from someone in Ontario. AND, someone who's living directly depends on living off the money given to him by AMERICANS. lol...priceless.

http://www.thestar.com/article/95968...falling-behind

I made a small change to your quote to make it a little more truthful. (You're welcome by the way)

I wonder, if the Americans fail, just how happy you'll be when the full weight of the consequences hit you and your family.

All I can say is that I hope they elect someone with sensible name for pres. I don't think I would want a Newt or a Mitt or even a Sanitorium (or whatever he is called). How does one go through life being called after a glove or a reptile?
Huntsman sounds an ok name though. Glad there are no Bubba's in the race. can you imagine it on CNN 'President Bubba addresses the nation'

"The war got nothing to do with oil"

I agree, I think some people simply overestimate Bush's strategic thinking abilities, I think everything is way simpler.
If you are Bush and have nothing to show for "war on terror" you talked so much about after 9/11 - your chances for reelection are very slim, you don’t have anything else either... BUT WAIT! There is this proven bad guy in the middle east, everybody hates him, isolated army with no spare parts or new weapons for years now... Makes for good "mission accomplished" pictures for reelection. Has nothing to do with 9/11 or Bin Laden, doesn't really have any WOMD or means to deliver them, but who cares about details or geography in the US?

Anybody thinks Bush would be a reelected if not for Iraq???

I was in America at that time and tried to tell my American friends that when people start tellig you about “mushroom clouds”, “rape chambers” and other emotionally charged but nonspecific things instead of facts, dates and locations – you are being had in some way, even if you don’t realize it yet. Most of them agree now.
