Any updates on Wabamun ice thickness? Never fished it thinking of heading that way tomorrow? Would the best access be at the townsite?

Was out at Sylvan last Sunday around Sunbreaker and ice was about 8". Heading out tommorow again, probably hit RR23 and will report back. Probably hit south buck to sometime in the next few days.
First time at Sunbreaker and fishing sucked btw.

I don't think it's abnormal for the lake to freeze over at this time but the thickness will really vary between the main lake and French/Long bays. Last year in early January there was a good solid 12" of clear ice in French bay but the main lake was half that or less. East of a line drawn between birch point and garnet point is like it's own little lake as far as ice build goes imho.

I was at Wab today. I was fishing off the town site. The Ice varied from 10 inches to 12 inches the deeper you went out . A few guys had medium size vehicles on the ice . I walked on . The fishing was awesome . Nothing big but had a hoot. At times I couldn't keep up between my Jawjacker and my line in the tent. Tight lines

As had been posted, it's between 8-10" at Sunbreaker Cove on Sylvan. We tried the primetime bite...fishing 3-8 tonight (Sat) in a spot that has produced for us every single time we've been there... And nothing. Not a mark on the Lowrance, not a thing on the Aqua Vu, not a nibble... It was DEAD. Talking to others as we got there, seems everyone is having a tough go at Sunbreaker...

Was at Lac La Nonne yesterday. 7 to 8 inches of good clear ice. 4 to 5 inches of snow cover. Quadded on. Some people parked their vehicles on the ice near shore.

On Gull on the 26th. 12” of ice (measured) with about 4-5” of snow. Water was quite merky where we were. Quite a few guys out with 1/2 tons. Ice was cracking mightily when they would drive past. We walked on.

Quite often they have the gate at the boat launch closed so you walk on but it might be open now. Very tough fishing through the ice the last 2 winters, so much that I gave up on it for ice. Best place to try would IMO the far south end where the spill way is located. 50-100M from shore is a good 20FOW and may hold a few walleye and pike. Good luck

Yesterday at Wabamun just out from the marina 12 inches niches of ice 8 black and 4 inches of white ice. Frozen flood water on top of that. A few cars and mini vans out and one F150. I had my gear hauled out for me with a nice lady and her quad. I packed it off the lake.

This was for the guy asking about snow in Lac la biche;
We were In Lakeland last weekend. Probably 4-6” of snow on the lake. More then enough for a sled. The trails are dry so if your trying to ride any trails, scratchers are probably needed to keep your sled cool.

Gull - Dec 29
Sandy Point Area.... 15" around shore-line. 11" about 1km from from shore. Heave east of shoreline about 1.5km out.... heave is running in a north-south direction. A few pick-ups/SUV’s out in the ~ 11” areas... solid ice but there is enough snow to hide the dangers and possibly get stuck.
IMHO... ice thickness is a bit thin for this time of year. Be safe and if in doubt don’t drive out.
Hears to the 2020’s folks.

I was up and Meridian Beach area. Pretty much same. 11-12 further out. Saw a few vehicles closer to shore. The ones out further like me were sled or quad. Good to see. And, I was surprised how little ice for this time of year. Not a lot of snow so just not enough cold, cold days yet.

Was on Pigeon Lake west shore Dec 29th
Black ice 10.75-11.25 inches with a little over one inch of white ice.
I walked out but there were 3 half ton trucks out on the ice. If the nights stay cold, it was -13 when we left last night, it will be another week before I will drive out.
Fishing there off the PP was very slow.

Was out in front of the stoner boat launch on the west side of gull on the 27th ice was a solid 12 inches and good solid ice. I drive out a ways with my 3/4 ton. Couple other vehicles out there too. I wouldn't drive north of there towards sunset legion or r.v heaven area tho. Seen trucks go thru a couple times in years past. It's close tho but I'd be checkin every 50 meters or so if breaking a new trail. Horrible fishing. Walleye, walleye, walleye. 2 feet under the ice lookin at a wire worm even.

Half Moon Bay -Sylvan
Was out there yesterday. I didn't have my tape but looked to be around 10". Not a fish to be seen. I'm trying to get my young boys (5 & 7)
into fishing but the last few times we've been skunked. We've had our best luck at Eagle lake but it would be nice to catch something from a clean lake to bring home.

10-11 inches on Eagle. Trucks and shacks galore out there. Fish weren’t active much. Lots of staring and lazy strikes.
