Niton saloon, been there done that.
Sunnybrook Hotel, summertime and motorbikes. Don't get much better than that!

"When times are tough and friends are few the Alouette's the place for you" Alouette Hotel, the Pas MB. Best t shirt ever. I am still convinced the earth revolves around the Longview Hotel though.

Gainford hotel. Had some good times there during the summer long weekends. Drayton Valley hotel was some pretty wild times in the mid 80's when I was 16. Pouce Coupe hotel is a nice bevy stop as well.

ROFL That's about right!
I've spent many a night in that place. The company used to rent a couple of rooms there for us out of town guys when we were in town. With nothing to do in the evenings I'd go to the bar and drink Seven Up and listen to the band. The place could be dead as a morgue one night and hot as a firecracker the next night.
I remember bears in the dumpster, locals participating in a little x rated entertainment on the stair case to the second floor. Drunks sleeping in the halls, a co-worker getting hauled out in hand cuffs. It was generally interesting. I could tell stories but it might get some people in trouble.
(edit) I cant forget about the stolen Moose. Where else would a Moose get stolen but at the Stardust in High Level.
That story wound up in a book about a game wardens life. LOL My boss at the time was rumored to have participated in that little drama.
I never was much of a drinker but I spent a lot of time on the road, first as an oilfield worker and then as a long haul trucker.
Been in a lot of bars, been kicked out of a few, got in trouble a time or two.
Could have had a bit of x rated fun myself on several occasions.
I can't remember all the names of the bars and not even all of the towns.
A few stand out. The Sin City bar, Cynthia, Alberta. The Big Valley hotel.
The Driard Hotel in Wetaskiwin. The Stardust in High Level, The Old McNamara in Peace River. WhiteCourt, Fox Creek, The Swan in GP, the Aurora in Manning, the names are covered in dust now, the memories faded.
I haven't been in a bar in a couple of years. About the only place I go to now is the Regal Beagle in Keg River. Every now and again I drop by to say hi to old friends, to share a laugh or two and drink a coffee or two.
I guess I'm getting old. That is what someone told me a while back.
I don't feel old inside but my bones say they are right so I guess it's about time to slow down and enjoy life. Doing what I'm not sure.
Old guys aren't supposed to enjoy the things they used to from what I hear. It seems we are supposed to sit around telling young folks about the good old days. I don't know about what other old guys want but I'll let others sit around telling stories, I want to go out and make a few more good stories to remember.

Did field sales for a fluids co. for many years - don't think I missed to many bars along the way...
Champion Hotel: let me bring my dog in with me
Vulcan Hotel: many a long session in there
Lomond Hotel and the Blue Saloon in Carseland were owned by the same Gal, had tabs at both those places, both her sons made the big leagues as pitchers, Jeff won rookie of the year a number of years ago playing for the Texas Rangers
Beaverlodge Hotel 30 years ago had a very impressive collection of stuffed animals the place was always rockin back then...not anymore
Milo Hotel was another gem...I was there at closing time when some of the locals decided it wasn't closing time yet, they locked the owner/bar keep in the cooler for awhile

Lundbreck Alberta
Just had to tell you all about The Lundbreck Inn. Lundbreck is a hamlet - that's small! Thursday night is jam night and there are some really good musicians that come out. In the old days it was a pretty sleepy little place and might have barely made it at times but now - they have the most awesome chef, and I mean a chef not a cook! The food is incredible - I mean over the top great and cheap and lots of it. Anybody still looking at this thread and looking for a great small small not yet a "town" bar. Come out on a Thursday and eat drink and listen to some great tunes.

in the early nineties , used to hit a place called Buddy's pub in Arcola Saskatchewan. First time walking in, you would never expect a bar like this in a small town with a population of 350. Unreal

The Zoo in Valleyview was a pretty wild place in the 70's, you'd have cowboys, indians, rig hands and hippies all drinking and carrying on. There were some pretty epic battles there and quite a few RCMP members even got their butts kicked a few times.

Some of my favourites are:
Manyberries...great food plus the old folks singles night twice a year is pretty exciting
Mirror....Have a beer with the deer! Great perogies too!
Formost...Definitely good people watching
Pure Country Saloon in Crowsnest Pass...best wings anywhere
Patrica...great steak pit
Bassano....great steak pit
Water Valley Saloon....good cast of local characters.
Caroline...Stagcoach I think....good burgers.
|
Heh, played Pictionary with some folk from Bow Island, in the Manyberries saloon last hunting season. They need to buy more pilsener, as we drank it all. I'll give 'em a call next season so they can stock up for when me and my buddy drop in.

The Wanham Bar in the 80‘s. My brother and I would head up from Edmonton on a Friday night to the farm and stop in at the bar. Never got a great welcome but had some very interesting discussions with the locals.

The wife's parents owned the Waldorf Hotel in Leduc, believe they sold it in the 80's, it's still around.
