Hey guys. Has anyone fished the Sask side by Cold river campgrounds this year? Its a lot closer for me to go in on that side. Just wondering about the ice/fishing conditions there and also further up towards Murray Island? Thanks for any help or tips!

I cannot speak for the river area but I can tell you the south/south east part of the island had flood water, ice heaves, broken ice and was about 10-11" of ice awhile back. It was much thinner and sketchier then the rest of Cold Lake.

You can go right out front of the marina a couple hundred yards and catch there 90' of water at first light.....
I wouldn't go anywhere near a outlet of water or anyplace with flood water etc in a vehicle other than a sled or quad but even then I don't like it.
There are so many safe places to fish and yes the bite comes and goes but this seems to be for the complete lake...why take a risk.
Good luck.

well i got 5 hours on the ice today. landed 4 lost 2 in the hole and lost another 4-5. fished 40-65 feet of water off of provincial lots of bait clouds holy !!!
downsized hook size after lunch when the bite slowed and that seemed to help.
wow was the ice ever popping and groaning all morning. it’s really unnerving, 18 inches where we were. walked out deeper and there was 16. Ice road truckers say loud ice is good ice!!

This past weekend ice was 13 to 16 inches outside French bay, fishing was slow but we managed a few fish in 115 feet of water, biggest we landed was a 31inch but was wondering if anyone knows what the ice thickness is inside french bay, thank you

Turned a really slow start into an unreal morning out there today! Tried every lure in my tackle box before finding the ticket! Just laid my lure on the bottom and they would literally inhale it every time. Caught between 15-20 lake trout in 1H20min, 3-4 over 75cm, all released. Just need to adjust your presentation sometime and you never know what can happen. Good luck out there!

What did you use for the bottom fishing?
I usually just lay a 6" minnow.

Try a treble hook and 2 split shot and some sucker belly right on bottom

it’s been slow for us landing approx 4 fish a day between the 2 of us
We have been trying different depths and methods. Seems like the fish are a bit lazy/ lethargic compared to other times i’ve been out.
I tried fishing the drop offs but it maybe seems like they like the gentle slopes and flats better. Anyone have any luck fishing the drops ?

Family and I drove out to lower chain lakes. (Athabasca).
Lots of snow maybe half an inch of flood water. 15 inches of clear black ice. Slow day but lots of fun with the kids.

the bite picked up a little today they were starting to chase again but smaller baits and shallower water still seemed to be the ticket.

Konrads were out on the first. YouTube video shows some good fish caught. We went exploring and only got 5 , decent size but short of legal. Yes Ice is thinner and there is flood water by the island. And truck tracks across the middle of the lake. Some people are just plain crazy.

They are only "keepers" if people decide to kill them. No one is being forced to "keep" a fish, its a choice.

Exactly they are only Keepers if you decide to keep them, but with the amount of fishing pressure on this Lake now the internet pressure, I see so many new people coming up that can't wait to catch a lake trout to take home still think the slot limit should be smaller.

exactly slot size and the so called legal keepers let them go....most of us do as we just enjoy the catching which this lake is very entertaining in that category....then periodically a beast from the bottom shows up...awesome.
