Well since it is the Oilers thread, I don't want to rub in the 7 point lead. But they spanked the Leafs pretty good.

Exciting game, good fans even at 50%.
McD will lose the assist on goal 3 however, he didn’t touch it after the draw.

Fire the coach and bring in a new one, everyone digs a little deeper for the new guy, it was a nice team win, smith was solid in net and the team got him a little run support.

I hope it carries over for the rest of the season, time will tell, it's not like the Oilers have never fired a coach before, this is not something new, the Oilers coaching staff has been a revolving door, sooner or later they will understand that something else needs changing, just saying.

I like his style. How he played everyone equally. That way if he needed to lean heavy on a couple players (you know who I’m talking about….) in the third period, there would still be plenty of gas in the tank.
Makes a lot of sense.
11 forwards instead of 12 so The fourth line can have some of the top players rotated in it throughout the game.
Change is good. Usually. We will see.

I called that one....get ride of the coach(s)....new tactics...new voice(s)....better response.

Seen it many times when a crew, section, team of very talented people go stagnant just change up leadership a bit.

I'll admit that I was hoping for a loss just to prove that you can't sow a silk purse out of a sows ear. Fact of the matter, it's still the same sub par defense and goaltending. Time will tell I suppose.

Good guess…… not a lot of people would of thought of changing the coach when a team starts to tank….. especially an oiler team.
It’s a temporary fix at best. Smith isn’t gonna play lights out for 40 games in 80 days……it might even kill him….

Let's be realistic the Oilers have had 9 coaches in the last 11 years, it's not the coach that's the problem .................

Fun fact , since 2000 / 01 season Oilers have had 10 coaches while the Flames have had 12 .

Alberta NHL teams changing coaches frequently isn’t that unusual.

To be fair though the Flames have the second most Stanley cups ever won by an Alberta based NHL franchise

I think the best thing Woodcroft could do is put together some line combinations and stick with them...let each line/defense pairing get used to playing with each other...

Biggest problem is just traditional Oiler whale hunting when recruiting. Always after a big name and thinking that solves everything when all it accomplishes is temporary appeasement of the fan base. No New ideas allowed. When those happen they just point to their 5 cups early in history and say "We've been there so this is how it's done."

Holland. Tippet. Hitchcock. Heatley attempt. Etc etc ad nauseam. One day they might figure out success is determined by the sum of all the parts. Not just one or two.

Great to see they've allowed some new ideas into play with Woodcroft.
