Isn't that something! CBC is the a fitting platform for morons.

Learned everything he knows from Bridgette Bardot, Jane Fonda, Neil Young and the likes.

I thought he was a musician? What a P.O.S.

CBC as the platform leaves much to be desired . . . that said, Mr. Lund gave some background and the implications of open pit coal mining.

To the above poster . . . I don't know what your vocation is, nor do I care, but anyone with an interest in the forever decimation of the place where he lives has just as much 'right' to express it as you, the accountant in the inner city does.

Look at the Elk Valley . . . if you dare. Dip your cup in the Elk River or other feeders . . . .drink up. Hope you don't get sick or poisoned.

Watched this little clip today with the Coal Queen, Gina Reinhart's dad talking back in 1980's about how he would solve a problem. This is most likely how his daughter and the Reinhart family all think.

He wanted to poison the water to sterilize the Australian aboriginals which would eventually eliminate them from the land.

Keep the Reinhart's coal mining out of Alberta just like we try to keep other invasive species out.

Corb Lund can stick to trying to entertain, other than that personally anything he has to say is like any other entertainer, I don’t care.

I'll give Corb the benefit of the doubt..........because he lives in the area that will be affected forever. And many there say short term gain is not worth the long term pain.

Many- That is where you are wrong. Very few down here actually. Check out the Crowsnest network on FB and a few others. The people not from around here like
Corb may be against it. Better yet make a trip down and ask a few locals here.

Would you be comfortable with long term damage to the eco-system ? Would the FB gang also ?

Not going to happen but thats an easy out.
The FB gang is from here and the mines are well supported locally.

Not true Lannie

Lots of local oppose this mine being here. Many have been ‘told’ to be quiet.

And you know this.

We will know if mining is no longer supported if all the long time local people in the Pass vote NDP in the next election.

Right…..

There’s even retired mine workers that don’t support it.

Quite the hostile ‘shut up or else’ culture that seems to rear it’s head down here.

I’m all for the mine. Just solve the selenium problem in the waterways…. And let er buck

I’ve said it many times on this thread and others.

We’ve known it’s a serious problem to waterways and critters since ‘98 at least (u of C study, 1998). So fix it and let’s giver!

Unfortunately when things go wrong it doesn't just affect the mining town.

I’ve told you this before, but here we go again. If you are talking about Teck, they have a solution and are working very hard on these projects as we speak. They can and are removing selenium. It’s a very extensive program, but they have solutions.

https://www.teck.com/responsibility/...SAAEgI4afD_BwE

https://www.teck.com/news/news-relea...iew-operations

I know people working on these projects including my wife. These people take this issue and their jobs very seriously. If any of these new mines were to go through they would be held to the same standards as Teck is. I myself worked in water treatment and testing for about twenty years and understand what they are doing, and yes it is working.

I am friends with lots of people who are against any new mines as well. When we tell them and even offer to show them that there is a solution for removing selenium, well they don’t want to hear it. It’s like a kid in the mall, plugging his ears and stomping their feet, going la la la la…… I’m assuming you fall under this category as well.

So what would convince you Bessie? Would you like a private VIP tour of the water treatment plants in operation or the ones being built? Do you think all these people involved in these huge projects are just sitting around on their asses doing nothing trying to dupe the public? Do you think Teck is spending over 100 million dollars to fix this problem is just an experiment to see if they can do it?

They can do it, it’s a fact, and it is being worked on right now. Quit reading the Narwhal.

As you know, we live here as well. I stare at the pass out my front window and could throw a rock from my place and hit the Oldman. We care about the water too. New innovations and technologies can fix issues mines were causing in the past that no one even knew about until not that long ago. But it does take time.

Finally!!

Thank you davey…. Now I can chase something down and maybe dig into the science that supports this mitigation program.

For the record…. NONE of the alberta companies are proposing such measures…. I am waiting to get concrete plans and research from those companies…. It’ll happen I suppose

Here’s my problem with this still…. And I’ll repeat myself…. Our govt KnEW about the selenium leaching problem almost 25 years ago…. SO DID TECK…. Yet it took over 29 years … a pretty much collapsed fishery (I’ve spoken with several Elk river guides…. This season is bad bad man… are the fishies still there) and 2-3 possibly contaminated wells….

….. and the Federal Govt skipping Teck w/a 60 million dollar fine…

So…. Is what’s happening here? Why the late response…? Im guessing:

1. The ‘state of the science’ is such that lawyers could convince energy regulators that’s ‘there’s no clear link’ and thus inaction occurred…

2. corporations don’t build extremely expensive treatment plants unless their profits are affected.

3. Provincial regulators and monitors are asleep at the wheel

Well….. here in Kennyland…. Just south of Paycountry (not k-country)…. We got

- Benga headed by billionaire that has such a ‘great’ track record regarding the environment.
- our AER that has done such an amazing job with orphaned wells and water management
- a bunch of junior coal companies with small bank accounts

Imma gonna need more. info to convince me.

Re: Teck…. It’s a lil late boys, but at least it looks like your doing something and I certainly appreciate that.

No need to suggest I read lefty rags there Davey. Our last few pms I appreciated, but I didn’t get those links you sent this time around.

Thank you again for the reading.

Figured as much. Like I said, fingers stuck in ears stomping feet, going la la la la la….. Nothing will convince you, ever. Your a broken record.

Worried about the fish? Maybe stop fishing them when it’s plus 32 out and waters are low. Ya, I know, you’re not the problem, it’s everyone else.

Governments and politicians come and go . . . but that contaminated land and water stays forever.
"Alberta was once a diamond . . . now, nothing but a lump of coal for sale"

Drink the water and watch the one eyed fish swim in circles . . . what could be better than that?
Oh! Come west and visit the beautiful Elk valley . . .
