That decision made no sense at all. As Burke said, even if he finished off the season with 30 straight wins he would have signed that contract. But if he continued to spiral downhill you would have had the option to sign him
For half the cost or let him walk.
The timing made no sense.

Talbot is not the problem. He never was. We have no defense.
Every goaltender we've thrown under the bus in the last ten+ years has gone on to shine on their new teams.

The logical explanation is well explained in the presser that Bobby Nick held after the firing of Chia...the entire Oiler hockey heads made that decision a week before it happened. GOOGLE is your friend. BTW, the decision makes sense

Well...... we’re still in the hunt.
Meaningful games in Feb is nice. I’ll take it.
Sounds like a Philly trade involving Talbot is still possible.
Talbot and Carter Hart train together and Talbots his mentor/buddy.
Dunno what’d we get.
We still need Kleffy and Reggie back.
Don’t know how they’ll play. But my guess is the whole season rests on how they do.
If they shine... we’ll actually have an nhl defense (not a great one).
Big week kids.... big week.

No way it happened that way. Oilers are just covering for their mistake. Might have been a happy mistake though.

https://www.tsn.ca/nicholson-koskine...tion-1.1246091
Edmonton Oilers president of hockey operations and CEO Bob Nicholson said Wednesday that former general manager Peter Chiarelli didn’t sign goaltender Mikko Koskinen to a contract extension on his own.
Koskinen was extended by the Oilers Monday on a three-year, $13.5 million deal – just one day before TSN’s Ryan Rishaug reported Chiarelli’s firing. Nicholson said Wednesday that the decision was approved by the organization, including the pro scouts.
“Peter did not make that deal all by himself. This deal really started when we got together with our pro scouts in Palm Springs in our meetings. We looked at the depth of the goalies that would be available next year. We really believe in Mikko. We had to make a decision between Mikko and Cam [Talbot]. We made that decision to go with Mikko and sign him to a three-year deal,” Nicholson said.

He was covering... If this choice was actually made in house everyone including Joey Moss should be fired... Dumbest move ever. ALMOST as bad as the one that our GM pulled by putting out a offer sheet that could have had huge implications if it was accepted.

Agreed. And I try to cheer for this team. Get rid of Mr. Hockey Canada. Enough is enough... Dustin Schwartz too!

Superbowl teams have a better GAA than the oilers goalies.

Swartz should have been fired last year.
16,22,27,83, and a few others should be ashamed to cash their pay cheques.

Talbot has let the first shot in about 8 times this year. Your good with being down 1 nothing in the first minute of almost 10 games? Holy red light...
And only Dubnyk went on to play well. Scrivens, khabibulin, Labarbera, brossoit, fasth, Montoya, Conklin, Salo, they all went on to do nothing. Not sure who you are referring to that we threw under the bus and they left to light up the NHL after they left??? Oilers haven’t had consistant goaltending since Roloson.

There are some bad contracts on the team. Been mentioned a lot by quite a few. But there are some good ones too.

All that I can say about the majority of the comments in this thread about how bad the Oilers are is that they all point to one common theme....**** poor team management!

There’s more to hockey than points. There’s also denying the other teams of points. And nuge is not a floater. Leon is.

They need to FIRE Dustin Schwartz, this guy has been here since Dallas Aiken's run at coaching. Hitch needs to get a quality goal tending coach to help his tenders. Once this is in place move to getting stronger on Defense.

That is exactly what a floater does....Saves his energy for the whole shift and is able to be there for a goal or assist while his other linemates are digging the puck out of the corner for him

He’s one dimensional. Gives the puck away and doesn’t know what forechecking is. I can’t stand his play or the contract they signed him to.

You talking bout nuge still or did you move on to Leon? Nvm. I reread again. Thought you were saying nuge is 1 dimensional.

That is a fairly neat trick since he more assist than goals.
If his linemates are always digging the puck out of the corner for him, who does he pass to for his 34 assists. It's not the defense. I guess Hitch is an idiot to play him on the PK.

Nuge is a quality player. Puts up points and isn’t a detriment defensively and can kill penalties. Unfortunately, he might have to be traded to get a decent d man down the road..
