Good hunt
Its good to see a bunch of guys having good luck with the great elk and ram. I hunt 402 for sheep and only in my wildest dreams I saw the ram you took. Good job and hope you have many more

many more
We do hope to have many more. This is gonna be a tough rookie year to beat however! Our wives are gonna expect every hunting trip to only take one year from here on out... it was a bad precedent to set!

Great Ram
What a ram! How old did fish and wildlife age the ram at?
He looks like he pushed an amazing amount of horn!
I might be fooled a little by the last few inches as he appears to be stacked at the base but I think I get 10.5?
(Using one of the closeup pictures in the motorhome)

thats the stupid part F&W said they couldnt tell past 7 years so thats what they aged him at, but just looking at him you can easy see at least 8 and looking at his teeth they were almost worn to the gums so everyone ive talked to thinks hes at least 10-12

That's an amazing sheep!...and in ONE DAY! Sounds like you all had an incredible time...harvesting your animals with all your best buds and having a blast. What a high you all must have been floating on that night!...everything to go down as quick as it did.Great pictures and congrats to you all.

Thanks, they are a bunch of good friends. And for all the rumours out there about fights between the friends, they are not true, we were all out for pheasants the other day. I do have a lot of respect for the bighorn sheep we got. I have heard from many hunters of the long hours and years put in searching for a ram that is legal. At times it does not seem like we deserved the opportunity to harvest this ram. My favourite quote is “Luck is where preparation meets opportunity”. As a Queen Venturer I would like to put a word out for Scouts Canada and especially my leaders as most of my outdoor skills and love of nature were taught to me through scouting , including shooting guns.

hey my leaders did to...wait a minute...same leaders hahaha!!
ya i am still on a high from that trip...whenever i see those pics i just have to grin. i have known all these guys my whole life......and i have never been more proud to know them than i was on that day. and i just want to say x2 on the fighting rumors...couldn't be less true....if anything we all get together very very often and hunt, laugh, talk, bs and share training tips for our dogs...and of course plan next years trip.
as podman has said..i know both he and ksteed have both said they don't feel "worthy" to have taken that ram....but i will echo what podman has said....yes we were lucky..very lucky no doubt...but we were also prepared to do whatever it took to get a great trip..animals or no animals. i also like t say that hunting is about being in the right place at the right time...and many times that is luck plain and simple...but that is why it is called HUNTING and not just killing.
thanks for all the great comments guys...we do feel blessed and lucky to have had such a great first trip.

That is an amazing story and an amazing ram! The elk is great too!
It was great to hear you mention Scouts and your leaders. I know alot of leaders (including myself) that put in alot of time and effort sharing their love of the outdoors, teaching outdoor and shooting skills so that future generations can learn to love the outdoors the way we do. Hearing comments like yours help us believe that it was well worth it.

Scouting Skills
It is true, that we are all scouters, and continue to be involved in the program as leaders. At 35 years old, I have had the opportunity to work with young men for most of the last 15 years in this great program. I only hope to be able to be half as good as my leaders were to me.
While none of us expected to have the experience that we have had, we did know that we would have a great time in any event. Skills, Preparation and Luck each played a huge role. We may have now had our share of luck... from here on out we may just have to try for skills and preparation!

It is great to hear that you are leaders in scouting. I spent more than 20 years, as a leader, range master and a trainer. I really enjoyed the entire experience of Scouting. There is nothing like taking a group of "city" kids and helping them to experience the outdoors and to learn that one really can camp in a tent in the winter and enjoy it!

Who needs a tent! The two september nights under the stars deep in the woods on this trip were some of the greatest nights in my memory. February can be just as good in this part of the world!
