I look forward to seeing how this team does next year and the year after. I predict an Oilers / Leafs cup final in 2019!
And from my POV from the couch, I'm not sure Eberle has what it takes. He stood out when the Oilers were mediocre at best scoring the odd fancy goal early in the season, but most of the team has now evolved past him. I say trade him while his commodity is still somewhat high and get one more big d-man. Look what Pronger did for the team...

That's what bad fans do to great players by putting to much pressure on them.
They lose their confidence ,the history book is full of them .

Still feel PO'ed and robbed. Players have to feel it way worse. It will pass. Lots of positives. Just hard to see today.
One thing I do wonder.... why does officiating need to change for playoffs? It seems to me that refs let more violations go. That's an advantage for a team that doesn't have the speed or skill to compete so hacks, holds, runs from behind... Made me think when I saw a duck player (Getzlaff I think) simply cross check a stationary oiler (without the puck) in the numbers from behind and knock him down. Clear, super-obvious, and no call. Or player basically jumping on McDavid's back. How does ignoring that improve the game? And I'm not talking about just the Oiler opponents. When Kassian leveled Couture along the boards last series it sure looked to me like he left his feet, but no call either.

The haters are out in full force to gloat this morning, kinda figured it would be like this Wonder when Rio will show to put in his jabs lol.
As a life long Oiler fan, what a fun season to watch them grow, what a great playoff run watching them learn. Ya they lost, so will every other team but 1. No one expected them to win enough to even make the playoffs and they got in without any threat of another team bumping them.
As much as I like Eberle, he has to go, I thought Nuge did well in the playoffs but couldn't buy a point to help the team. Pouliot must go along with Ebbs and Nuge. Maybe their Vegas bound.
So here I sit today, sad they're out, happy for the run, pumped for next season.

Yeah better to be looking at it like the glass is half full rather than half empty, like some seem to be.
Just a game people.

Truly, Eberle has been molly coddled the last two seasons, lousy defensively, soft on the puck, no physical game, and mediocre offensively.
But the Oiler fans were mean to him?

How many playoff points combined between him and Nugent?
I'll admit it almost hurt watching them blow nearly every play they were a part of.

I thought Nuge played his heart out all series. Just couldn't buy a goal. Created the 3rd most overall scoring chances on the Oilers, behind only McDavid and Draisaitl.
Now, I'd be more than happy to keep him as a 2nd line center, because center depth in the NHL is one of the best luxuries to have, but if he goes in a package for an unreal #1 stud dman or something... pull the trigger.

I see a team as a group of players, not just a sweater. Teams change over time, even if the sweater and name remains the same.

Yeah. Sometimes other teams get better players in their JERSEYS and have a better shot at winning and it's toner for a new hat. We get it.

RE: poor officiating...
You have to remember this is a business, the refs will do what necessary to "control" the game, if they want to slow the pace down, they call more penalties. But, since this is the playoffs, and they want action, they don't call much. Notice how much press/exposure they get because of this ?
This is one of the many reasons I stopped watching professional sports (except if a local team makes the playoffs). I watch college/university stuff now, Such better sports.
At the end of the day, whichever team can play to the refs, will win. 99% of the time. Sports has ALWAYS been that way.

It's really to bad ,they drafted some great young talent.
Under the right circumstances the oilers could of had another dynasty.

I am over it lol. It's just a game after all.
Are you totally oblivious to what they have to show for it, willfully ignorant or just foolish? Quite obviously a very different team than the last several years.
Great hockey commentary though way to show up at the end to kick someone true fan right there lol

It is and due to circumstances they had a brutal team for a decade. Sure glad they're on the right track now though.

You started it so I'm just dishing some out as well.
The only difference I saw was the goaltending.
A good goaltender can make an average team look good.
A great goaltender can make a good team look great.
They also have a way of making coaches look better than they actually are.
The question for next year is will he play as well, better, or worse.

Just my opinion
If they would of traded one of their first round picks for a proven goaltender and brought in some decent free agent defenceman the young kids would of had a much better environment for them to excel in.
That's history they can't change it

Then they wouldn't have the shiny draft lottery ball to fawn over from 2015

Nuge played some of his best hockey as an Oiler in the playoffs, I thought he got stronger on the puck and his face offs improved through out the series.

Couldn't agree more, he'll be in Vegas next season.
