Proof here that a great many AO posters are absolute jakwagons with a capital J.
Comments on her 'bratty' kid...how do you know?
Comments on what an idiot she is...for what, taking responsibility for her kids safety?
And of course the ever popular "I'd have told her where to go"...yeah, tough talk from behind your keyboard. If you did have the poor manners to do this I would split a gut if her ex special forces husband came over and put you in your place.
Makes me ashamed to call my self an outdoorsman at times.

You did the right thing. You showed her you were a responsible gun owner and more than likely she will pass that on to others. She was up front with you about her concerns for her child and I would commend her on that. We raised 4 children and not one of them had a sleep over or play date without one of us meeting the parents face to face.

You also gave a kid a great afternoon on the tramp & maybe a chance to make some friends. Good on ya!

Again with the violence. What is the infatuation progressives have with violence? Some people on here express the opinion that it's none of her business and you would laugh at them getting beat up by an ex-special forces husband?

Not a single outdoorsmen here suggested the use of violence, except for yourself. You SHOULD be ashamed. What a sick and demented sense of right and wrong you have. Luckily, the special forces members of Canada have a much better understanding of civility than you do.

Settle down. Considering how gun owners are treated, I don't blame the guys for pushing back. Not gonna have someone search my house either. Her intentions seem good, but what is the road to hell paved with again?

I agree that we do need to improve our image with the general public, but that need stops short of privacy invasion.

As many others here have stated, I don't think I would have been as accommodating as you were, however your approach garnered the best result so it is hard to argue with it. Good for you. I hope you get a chance to introduce the young guy to proper gun handling and shooting skills.

Special, not special I wouldn't say anything on line that I wouldn't say to someone's face. Your sugestion of violence and stirring the pot by calling us jack wagons isn't very nice either.

LOL Candidate for post of the year here. ^^^

I'm much more tolerant and would've answered "yes" or if I was in one of my ever frequent sarcastic moods, "What makes you think your kid will be inside my house?". All with a smile of course.

Funny thing, that happened to a good friend of mine, except he was a MP (military police) not special forces. Didn't work out too well for him. lol The MP went home with his tail between his legs, my friend trains mma fighters. Sometimes the guys behind the keyboard or in the next car etc are more than keyboard warriors you never know how tough the next actually is.

You guys prove my point.
It's all okay to disparage the woman and her child mentioned in the original post...but when someone point the finger at AO members being (use whatever inoffensive term you desire)...well holy helle...how dare I disparage the poor thin-skinned Alberta Outdoorsman.
And some of the comments here..."tell her she doesn't know ****z from shineola" (and a few other gems here)...if I spoke to a neighbor in that kind of tone I'd dammed well expect a visit from her husband.

He wouldn't show. His wife wouldn't let him on account of all the guns.

Yeah, all that I meant by that remark was that one needs to be careful when spouting off ones mouth from behind a keyboard...in real life there is always someone bigger and tougher than you are.

I find the violent threat counterpoint rather amusing, basically espousing violence as somehow making things better.... This member should know enough to realize that some responses are merely people venting, some are them being humorous and some are sincere and well thought out tidbits of wisdom. I think I contributed some in each category! Chill out! It's the Internet..... People often employ the use of sarcasm or hyperbole. The thread served its purpose, perhaps the neighbor lady even Googled it up when searching 'safe firearms storage Alberta' and caught wind of her intrusive and statistically improbable query.

When you put it that way it does sound bad but so does inadvertently accusing someone of having guns dangling all over their home which in turn would make me feel she is calling me a bad parent. No matter how I look at this its insulting to me. Some may be a little more insulted to the extent of suggesting she doesn't know anything but by me telling her to hit the road and then having her super hero husband come over. That's where things could get ugly unfortunately.

Maybe you better tell her ex-special forces commando double naught spy husband with a black belt in kung-fu and some ninja throwing stars, that his wife was trying to get you alone in your house so she could inspect your gun.

Is she married to Steven Seagal by any chance?

Agreed, but, like Caber said.. it's the internet its what we all do, OP handled it well and everyone added their opinion, Some we like some we don't.

I have noticed many members in the last couple of weeks appear more agitated than normal, they need to rebalance a bit, it happens to all of us.

Couldn't of said it better..
Or even better tell her all the antlers were from a garage sale and you don't know anything about firearms

I'd be more than happy to show her after she provided a criminal back ground check. Don't want anyone with a history know where this stuff is.

I have encountered something similar. Bird-brained trophy bride #1, from down the street started by asking me for the permits to possess antlers after seeing a couple of elk and moose sheds in the garden. Then her workout buddy, Bird-brained trophy bride #2 shows up and states that it is illegal to possess antlers from endangered animals, then went on a rant about how glad she was there was a law that prevents people from storing firearms in their homes.

I told them I was pleased that their kids did not seem retarded and they were still welcome to play with my son anytime, but that the current conversation was over. Bird brain trophy bride #1 sent her husband over later in the day to have words with me. He had a chuckle over the issue and had a beer with me in the driveway. He still stops be for a pint but neither of the women even make eye contact with me.

He must find other redeeming qualities in her, I don't think I'd be able to put up with that amount of being just plain stupid/wrong in a spouse. Those endangered elk & endangered moose mounts you have must really be impressive

Too bad that the families hadn't first met with a play date or BBQ or something similar. Fears would most likely have been alleviated.
