My Fav. thread as well
Here are a few from my dog Suki's first solo trip and only secod ever trip. Just last week-end at WW Birds. Slow start as Suki didn't truly understand what we where there for, but that changed as soon as she flushed that first bird. A clean miss. From that first flush on her tempo increase and she was working much harder and went into ANY cover I asked that she look into. I AM HOOKED.
Second bird flushed to low and I wasn't comfortable shooting as Suki was in persuit. I need to work on her with that. I had another shot at this bird later but he flushed on the ground and Suki didn't see him.
We went over to try to find the first bird I missed and eventually found him. Suki flushed him perfectly and I made the shot on this one. Perfect retrieve making for one happy father.
Also included one of a recent walk at Nosehill.

Has anyone heard whether or not SRD is continuing with the pheasant release program for next season?

Heres a quick series of afew from back in 2009. Out doing a little mixed bagging, bowhunting whitetails/bird hunting, just having fun. Tater locked up hard on the opposite side of a large drainage ditch on the edge of a field just as we were wrapping up this spot. Took me about 15 minutes to get over to her. Gave us lots of time to get camera man in position for afew photos. Too bad it was a hen or it might have been better yet. Still some great shots.

Jim, his instincts and nose are top notch. I can't believe how many birds he puts up in a day. 9 times out of 10 if he gets birdy he finds them, if the bird isn't too flightly he points and holds really well now too. Really quite amazing considering hes 5 months old.

My 13 year old Lab, Ti, and myself on a pheasant hunt last fall near Cessford. This is likely his last rooster, as his nose is all but gone. I spotted it, put him almost on top of it, then ended up pushing it to the end of the cover before i put it up. I then fired a shot and got a slow crash landing, then run back to cover. I put Ti right on the scent trail, and he was getting a bit, but not enough to get him birded up like he has for me in years previous, though this was a fresh trail with a wounded bird at the end. I pushed the bird out of the cover again, but Ti spotted it this time. The rooster had a 40 yard lead on him, and was 60 yards from the creek, with Ti being 100 yds from that same creek. Ti got his mouth on the tailfeathers just as the birs went over about a 5 ft bank into cattails. Ti followed with a thud. I handed the shotgun to my wife and started running to rescue my dog, as i was sure he was broken or drowning, by the sounds i was hearing. I got to the bank, and he was swimming right behind the rooster, with sheer determination. he got the bird in his mouth, then i grabbed scruff and drug the pair of them up onto solid ground. It isn't his nicest upland work, but i was damn proud of my old dog after it was all done and we could relax. He slept a solid day after that affair.
