Eagle is at 5 in of good ice, and 1.5 in of so-so ice on top. Few guys on sleds today and I’m bringing the quad next time.

Pigeon North side has 4.5 inches of good ice and 1.5 inches of white ice on top of that. About 3-4 inches of snow on top. The small heaves look safe until I found one where the two sheets of ice pulled apart from each other by about 2 feet and the ice in them middle was less than an inch. Walked out which was fine as long of you were careful around these ridges. Not quite snowmobile time yet.
Hauled out a new tent which weighs a ton so only fished in 3 FOW but and managed one small but healthy pike.

I was wondering how much ice might for on Pigeon over the next 2 weeks. There is some good literature on this:
http://lakeice.squarespace.com/ice-growth/
Looking at the temps, wind forecast and snow cover I'm guessing at 8.5 inches of ice average on the lake. It is about 5-6 inches average now.

Can't report for Calling Lake, but Fawcett Lake had about 5-6" of ice yesterday and flood water EVERYWHERE. It was a mess out there and fishing was slow. Anchor Inn Resort was all locked up as well.

Chain Lakes
I was out at Chain Lakes today and the ice was 6-7 inches thick. There were some wet spots that we steered clear of. Caught quite a few trout and a few suckers.

Lesser Slave is not safe yet. Tried walking to the drop of near Assineau. We were first tracks. Numerous holes tested at 5". Walked over two minor cracks then at 300 yards there was one 3" wide and frozen. No big deal usually but on one side of the crack, 5" thick ice, opposite was 3" of ice. Needless to say we fished the 5" side and only caught one pile in 10' of water.

There is 10” of ice w/ 2” of flood water out in Lakeland P.P over the weekend. If you don’t have insulated rubber boots this is the season to buy some

Pine Lake
North end has significant flooding over 6 inches of fluctuating ice quality. All along the east shore for a mile had pockets of very wet slush. 2 keeper sized pike out of the adventure. It was hard slogging for a snowmobile with two of us.
