I agree...there is usually a good reason although sometimes it is removed before we see it or... there is something in the background.

IIRC...that member was previously banned for losing his chit and that his return was conditional...no?

In any case... if the guy wants back on all he has to do is keep it on the down low... and rejoin under anew name...like so many others have.

Some...are successful.
Others...can't change.

No, actually you didn't. you stated functionality. we had already answered factually prior post. And the question was in respect to a mod not admin. just sayin

perhaps on that version, but you would have to be a supermod, or how ever they put it. None of us are that, or want it. Privacy is paramount on that and I thank Rob for that. Besides we barely have time to read posts, Who in their right mind would want to go through PM's anyhow. There is enough dirty laundry posted on this board to worry about pm's. So to answer the question correctly as per this board. No, mods can not access pm's

Right...you win. I was wrong. I'm sure the member only wanted to know about mods and not admin, and what is ABLE to be done.

*edit....misunderstood your point*.
Just sayin

Account, posts, quotes and sql record gone please and thanks.

If you need a reason, pm is fine. Normally just requesting that should suffice? I was told no way.

Smile A view from the other side!

I think this site works remarably well. Religion, politics, legal problems, just about anything, and as Canadians we are by and large polite. The mods, who I take it are all volunteers run it pretty well. I challenge any one to make suggestions that will make it better. I can't think of any thing.

Free speech is the corner stone of democracy and we have lots of it here.

Et bientot!

I'm usually on board with you guys, but I'm confused on this one?
Potty, Mods can't advertise the reasons for a banning. That's personal information. It's a legal issue. Frankly, putting "BANNED" on the person's identity may be a breach of law. Better to just quietly remove all posts by the member and never mention him or her again. You must remember that this forum is part of a business. t's not just our little social club. If your local Walmart decided to ban an unruly customer, it would break any number of laws if it then took out an advertisement in the local paper announcing the fact. Same here.

Free speech can be had anywhere.

Same as here - say the wrong names in your free speech - if those names happen to own the place - you get banned.

Same as if you visited my house and started insulting me to my face - I'd ask you to leave and then don't expect me to be Friends elsewhere either.

I suspect it's a post on Facebook that got mr.d banned here actually.

But - maybe a post was deleted that I didn't see...

Who knows - or cares really. Fighting on Internet is like bald men fighting over a comb. Sure - someone wins - but why?

Do privacy laws really apply here? This is a public non-pay board not an employer or health board or gov't agency. I'm surprised. Do mods really have to guarantee anonymity? or can you just state up front that PM's are subject to disclosure if certain lines are crossed. I have always been under the impression that PM's on any free public board were not intended for pure privacy so much as they are intended to facilitate personal conversations between two people where they are discussing stuff that generally wouldn't relate to anyone else on the board...and by keeping it to PM's we reduce cluttering of the main board with meaningless chatter. I was never under any impression that they were private specially from admin. Even if told otherwise I'd still be inclined to assume that PM's are not 100% private.

Don't think they do this as to be legal but more out of class. Why someone is banned isn't a concern of ours and only would result in more input from people not selected to keep this board in line.

Secondly I don't believe this could be a legal matter at all as suggested by putting "Banned". They are banning IP's and handle names not posting the individuals first and last name on some sort of list for all to see.

Oko, ppl get banned from night clubs.
Ppl get banned from sports facilities.
Their names are sometimes on the news.
Maybe not in some hick town like okotoks.

Time to make a trip to the city. See how things get done.
