Marleau?
If he is looking for a contender, Edmonton is the LAST place he’d go.

Can’t see him signing with a team that has the troubles Edmonton has to finish out a career. Most guys would want a fun and winning environment not the current situation.

Draft Lottery Hall of Fame
A plaque commemorating the Oilers accomplishment of 12 yrs out of the last 13 would be a fitting award.

This off season called for more ice team and less puck biters. I’ll repost this pic when they tank the first 15 games. That club didn’t deserve any vacay...

It would show a playoff series win.
The southern plaque?
Bare wood. 1989 pic stapled to the back of McDonald and Peplinski accepting the cup in their street clothes. Both with popcorn butter smearing their faces.

Man can't be easy being a young star like these guys when it comes to the girls. Would be a concern if all they are after is $$$$, now I also can't think of a greater situation for a young guy haha. Wish I had said problems.

Reports that McDavid has been pulled out of this weeks Biosteel training camp due to nagging injury. It’s being reported on the “Oilers Feed” Facebook page

The Blues organization must still be drunk from their Stanley Cup celebrations, to give Chia any job other than selling programs!

You are truly a wizard of Smack talk. Feel free to drop me in your ignore list if you like, as I will be in both teams chats all season.
Now actual hockey talk. Anyone got thoughts on McCrutches sitting out the pre-season?? Pretty sure he will be fine without the tune up, but is there more going on other than, caution of injury in meaningless games??
Or lingering problems from the end of last season?
|
Pretty sure he would of sat out preseason anyway. Like always. He’s pretty valuable I hear.....

I expect he, along with the regulars like Draisaitl, RNH, Klefbom, Nurse will sit out all except the final preseason game and guys like Neal, Sheahan, Nygard, Yamamato (if he's healthy), etc. will play the majority to see if they are going to make the team, which players they are a good fit with, etc.

Yup. I consider preseason the final audition on to who may or may not make the cut.

What does everyone think of the new jersey unveil today. Not to bad for an alternate 3rd jersey. I kind of like it. I told the wife and kids I could use an Oilers jersey for my birthday or Xmas might have to have a closer look at these ones and maybe put it on the wife’s shopping list.

My first thought on the new jersey when it was leaked about a month ago was pretty ugly. A lot of the social media comments were much the same. Now, there seems to have been a bit of a shift. Most people are liking it and it is growing on me. Have always loved that dark Oiler blue. The orange is a little different than the orange of past jerseys, I think. Seems to be geared to the younger crowd a bit. I maybe would have liked to see them incorporate the white somewhere.

"Kyle Brodziak will not play another NHL game due to a back injury."
Unfortunate circumstances for Kyle, but it would appear a spot opened on the Oilers yesterday.
Also not sure how it all affects the cap, but the Oilers are now paying Brodziak, Lucic, Pouliot, Gryba, and Sekera a combined $6.03M and none of them are playing. I think this year is going to be similar to last year, but it may get interesting next year and hopefully Holland can bring his A game. Just a quick run down, 10 players are going to UFA and 4 are going to UFA with a projected cap space of approx. $25M.

Injured players will get placed on LTIR(Long Term Injured Reserve) which will make their salaries not count against the cap saving that money until they return. There are several rules around this and I don't know all the ins and outs, but Brodziak is a cap hit of 1.15 Million if he is placed on LTIR and misses the whole season his 1.15 million does not count against the cap. If he comes back 1/2 way through then his cap hit is half.
Some teams do not put players on the LTIR as they need the cap hit to make the floor. that's why some teams have traded for Guys like Pronger who they knew were never going to play again.
I also know you can retro activate people onto LTIR, not sure if that works exactly the same way.
Anyone who is part of a buyout or trade where you have retained salary counts against your cap and no way around it.

The new 3'rd jersey is ok but it's hard to beat the dark blue ones.
